My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Recommended Posts

Well its time to change some stuff up again. Even though the CT sounds 5.25's sound good in the doors I just cant get the RE's out of my mind. I know for a fact that these speakers slam and get loud. So I will do whatever I can to get them installed in the doors. Then I will get some kicks and install the CT's components or JBL components in there. So far what I have done with the RE's is get them test fitted in the stock speaker adapters. Took a little cutting but I got them in. I will need a 1" spacer to be able to get them installed. I will cut out two 1/2" Baltic birch rings for each speaker. I will cut the bottom ring bigger and screw that to the adapter. Then I will cut a ring the exact outside diam of the speaker and glue that to the speaker adapter ring. I will do some test fitting tomorrow. I am sure I will have to do some cutting of the inside of the plastic door panel to get material out of the way. I hope I don't have to cut a hole in the door panel though. That is what I need to find out tomorrow. If I have to cut I will.

I hope it doesn't turn into a build. Just a speaker swap.

Fuck!! Damn it man I guess you know me better than that. I have been thinking of a sub in the storage compartment in the rear just like BigDwiz has in his XB. Also thinking of installing the SQ 4 channel amp in there also to run all the new speakers. I will also be installing my HU out of my truck when I install the 80prs.

Alright I am done with trying different speakers in the doors. The CT Sounds Meso 5.25's will stay where they are. They just fit like a glove in the door and nothing else will fit the same. Comparing them to different speakers show that they have really decent mid bass. I think part of the problem is that the tweet location in the door a pillar. I think they may be too high in the sound stage and thats all I can hear, well not really but I think it takes away from the mid bass. I think I will try to position them just above the door speaker and see how that sounds. Now I need to work some OT so I can get the q-logic kicks.

I got my wifes cars speaker adapters in today. I am going to drive her to work tomorrow and then start installing the front and rear speakers. If I can get to it I may even install my HU in her car and the 80prs into mine. Its a real easy swap. Just plug and play as they are both Toyota's same plug. I will also install three sets of RCA's in my wifes car just to prepare for the sq 4 channel amp and a sub amp later.

Just got done with the wife's scion. I had to take out the entire rear interior to get the rear panels off. Gave me a chance to clean it all up in there. I installed the JBL 5.25,s that came in the component set. I put some CCF behind the speaker and did a foam ring on the outer part. I then did the front but forgot to take pics. First I installed the Soundqubed 2way coax speakers and they sounded just ok. Not really much mid bass. The stockers had more. So I went up into the speaker storage and pulled out a set of the older AQ 3 way coax speakers. That's the ticket. They sounded much better than stock and way better then the SQ 2way. I put some CCF in the door and put in an inner foam ring around the speaker. The way I wired them up was unsolder the connection from the stock speaker then soldered speaker wire to that with the correct plugs for the speakers on the ends. Then I put on heat shrink. I did this  so I didn't have to hack up the stock wiring. I can put it back to stock if I wanted with all the stock wiring.
I did try to fit the RE audio XXX 6.5's but shit they are just too damn big for really anything. So back in the box they went.

Only thing I have to do is swap HU but I will save that for another day.

Also my CT meso 5.25 set showed up while I was playing in the garage. Now I just need the kicks and install the 80prs and that will be done (for now lol)

So of course the wife's scion needs some bass. So i have in my cart an infinity 10" subwoofer. It comes with a bass knob and should be perfect for under the pass seat. Doesn't need to pound just add some good ole bass to the music. She said that it sounds louder and clearer with the new speakers installed and I agree. Its just missing that bass.
