Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Run as far away as you can get from that powerbastards alt and get a good one. such as a dc power, mechman, or singer alt. I would also add a second battery in addition to the alt not one or the other. But if you are really stuck on those two choices I would get the battery. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
SnowDrifter Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 I'd get a good alt from DC power or Mechman. Get the biggest one you can and that's all you should need. IMO it should have enough power output that you wouldn't need another battery ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
USOBASS Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 thanks guys... i appreciate the imput.
USOBASS Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 if i was to swap out the main stock battery (duralast i think) for the xs power, should i get rid of the yellowtop optima and just run the xs or should i run both? pls help...
Skullz Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 I would ditch the yellow top for the xs power and add another one in back as extra capacity along with an alt from one of the better companies mentioned above. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
USOBASS Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 do u thinkit'll be safe though to run them both in parrellel? i just dont have any other use for that damn yellowtop haha... sorry, forgot to mention my stock alt. is 160a...
Skullz Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Running them in series will increase the voltage to 24v and you would not want to do that, as it would toast all the electronics in the car. 160a alt is not bad for it being stock , but it is not capable of taking the punishment a system will dish out like an h.o. alt would. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
USOBASS Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 right, but wiring them in parallel would keep the load @12v... but would the yellowtop help at all do you think?
Skullz Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Best to not mix different types of batteries, like the optima dry cell with an AGM. You can mix wet cells and agm, but dry cell batteries are best left to an all dry cell battery bank. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
