SQ/AQ questions

I am also here if you got any questions you aren't sure about I have messed with the hdc3 so much I know every possible failure point and what works and what doesn't work.

The alum coil is worth the money if you plan to put 2k per sub otherwise copper coil is plenty for up to 2k.

Andrew, I'm so glad you stopped by and have me a comment. If I end up getting these things, I don't plan on sending more than 2K to it. I'm trying to be competitive(if I qualify) in Street2 MECA. I know you have EXTENSIVE experience with AQ/SQ and have done multiple setups.

So being that these are just Couple of 10s, would 37Hz tuning give me a good combo of being able to play music and put up some numbers into the mid 40s? My plan, if I end up getting these subs, is to run two 5" round ports made from stacked MDF rings and build in a progressive flare on each end of the port. You think twin 5" ports fired at the B-pillar would be enough port, possibly TOO much port for practical purposes? I appreciate any and all help, thank you :)

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

I think that is a great place to start and play with adding or removing port to get your number dailed in. Then once you find the magic port that works for your vehicle adjust subsonic to help with loading when you play music.

37 hz is a "safe" tuning to start off, those 10 will want to peak high probably upper 40s into the 50s hz range, just my experience. And that was in a trunk car off a AQ2200. They will take awhile to loosen up to so keep that in mind. As they loosen peak will change a few hz.

Thank guys. I guess I'll build an enclosure to the outside dimensions as I would for the box with 2 10s. I'd like to do the testing the old school with a sealed 10" sub with a Total Q of .707. I doubt that testing other ways would bring any or much difference.

The crap part is, the class I want to compete has a 2 batt limit and I'll be limited to an 80A fuse. If I want to bump to Street3, I can fuse how I want, but the competition will be deeper.

I'm not sure about the SPL only(in reference to the Aluminum coils)but it would be good info to have. This could be a burp only setup, I've not really made up my mind yet. I don't know what they'd sound like daily. I've heard them get loud, but never daily on low tunes for music. It's not like I can time low and expect the cone area to pick up the slack for lower frequencies with only 2 10s. I know low tunes aren't suggested with these things, if I was gonna run them daily I'd do something like 36 or 37Hz. Comp only would be more like 46-49. Maybe removable ports even.

I can say this about the subs for daily music. My 1 12 sounds amasing. I listen to mostly country and rock and how it sounds with thise style of music is amasing. Some times when i want lows i know mine will play down to 30hz with ease and i have it playing down to 25hz. At that low it still sounded good just not as loud lol.

What is the size of your box and port tuning? I just built a box for my hdc3 12 and it came out to be 2.76 cf and the port is tuned at 35.3 hz

I got the box info from someone at soundqubed. I could lessen the box size a bit by mounting the sub inside but I want to mount it inverted so I will get full box volume out of it as I have heard or read that these subs like bigger enclosures.

Am I correct? Thanks

My box is 2.6 cubic feet tuned to 36hz thats after all sub and port displacement so i would say just mount it normal. But yes they do like bigger boxes i just think almost 3cubes may be a bit to big. Maybe ami or someone can shed more light on this
