Why a 24" sub?

I love the idea of this subwoofer, the Stereo Integrity 24" driver http://stereointegrity.com/index.php?id=61, but why run this for $800 when I can buy two Stereo integrity 18" HT drivers http://stereointegrity.com/index.php?id=60 for half the cost and have more displacement potential?

I would just like some ideas as to why a person should pay $800 for a single driver (not saying that it's not worth it) when you could buy multiple slightly smaller subs and meet the same performance?

the question is which has more cone area, motor force and can handle more power.

if the 24 has more cone then it could potential be louder but at the same time if the 2 18's have a small amount less but more motor force in they could be louder. also depends on what you want to do, a 24 will take up a lot of room and need a massive box and not all vehicles can fit that.

It's a different driver all together. Look at the xmax, motor force.

The best way I can re-phrase your question is you are comparing a pair of Fi BL 12s against a BTL 18. Different subs, so they will have different costs associated with it.

I'll also ask this: What are these going in? A home theater or a car?

24s are also "new" They need to pay for the "initial" costs of building them somehow.

And then there's the shock value!

Several systems, several vehicles. Always changing!

I'm just trying to justify the niche for a 24" driver.....Even if you bought three of the SI 18" HT woofers, you are looking at 12 cubes sealed for them as compared to the 10 cubes sealed for the 24" driver, not much of a difference and still the three SI HT 18's are $200 cheaper.

In this example we will use home theater as an application. Why would I want to buy a single 24" driver when I could buy four 18" HT drivers for the same cost and semi negligible volume difference (60% more volume required for the four 18's) and have much more displacement potential?
