2 or 3 subs?

ok I'm in the middle of building my first box, it's a Lil bit over 5 cubic feet gross. so heres my dilemma, i have 3 alpine type rs i was gonna sell one but idk. should i run 2 subs at 2.5 cubic feet or 3 subs at 1.6 each. the port cu ft is just over .3 cubic feet tuned at 30hz.

I'm thinking of just drilling the hole for the third and if i don't like it throw another baffle over it or behind it and make a logo or something

You should decide if you are gonna run 2 or 3 before building a box. Building the proper box will make or break your set up. Also, depending how you plan on wiring the subs for an ohm load to the amp you have is a HUGE factor as well. Also, most* people only ever concern themselves with net volume of boxes not gross (after all displacements)

I am not sure what Alpine recommends for those subs for box size...

i always run magnet out always have always will. i built it for 2 subs im just bored and asking questions. so it would be 4.813 cubic feet net, And alpine says 1.3-1.9 for ported.

Gotcha. All good. If you built if for 2 then go with 2....

But don't say you will never go with subs in the box mounted. :drink40:

stay with 2

The output you'll loose by going smaller in cubes I don't think will be made up with the 3rd driver

If anything build a box a little bigger with more port and put those two type r's to work

there the newest ones, so 5th gen. i had one in a 2.5 net 3 gross and i loved it! when i bought the second sub i got a 1.9 (each sub) of air space And i didn't care for the sound. wasnt deep or hit low enough. that's why I'm going big.

they'll be running on a ct 1400.1

How low it plays and all that depends on the box tuning and air space. So you had them in a 1.9 box but what did you tune the port to?

it's weird because the 2.5 cubic foot box was tuned to 42hz and the 1.9 was 38hz! they were both pre fab boxes. the 2.5 box hit so much deeper, you know that song hypnotize by young Jeezy? it's got some pretty good lows in it and it was my favorite non "bass" song to demo with, but when i got the dual box (1.9) it Just didn't sound as good. it was like i was missing part of the beat!

anyway i finished my box today but for some reason i can't open my hatch! i dont know if it's frozen or if i Jammed something in there but I'll have to play with it tmrw. I'm just pissed been waiting for my Amp to get here for 2weeks then spent a total of 16+ hours building my box And the dumbest thing Is stopping me from enjoying all my work! I'm so nervous about my box, i just want it to sound good!
