~HELP~ What Battery Size ? Kinetic/XS

Recommended Posts

Car 1991 BMW 850I

Altenator 140AMP, 1960W

Stock Battery Size (2 12V 65AH) Or (1 12v 92AH)

The Car currenty Has The 2 12v Batteries in it and im looking to upgrade them to run my system but dont kno which size or type to buy.

The Amps Going into the car are.

Focal Fps 4160 (120wats per channel ) * 4 = 480wats rms
Focal FPS 2160 (105 wats per channel) *2 = 210wats rms

and a sub amp to run 1.600 wat rms sub ( will upgrade to 2 if i feel the need later)

So at max my system is ~1890W RMS

So im looking to either run 2 or 3 batteries but don't kno what to get my local shop didnt help to much with decidng what to do so i need some help !

P.s i can get XS at 30% off atm.

My local shop and there distrib is no longer carrying XS so there droping all the stock for cheap so if i picked up 2 D3100's would that be way more then enough ? i only ask id the 3100 would work cause then i get an even better deal lol

or is there a point to were overkill hurts the system ?

Measure the stock location to see what will fit.

Stock Location is Huge its massive lol Im pretty sure i can fit a D7500 in each location without having an issue the batterys are mounted in the Trunk on the left and right side soo if i understand correctly any batteries from the D series above the say D1200 range would be sufficient in both supplying the power and cranking the car ? Im pretty sure to be safe tho ill go slighly bigger if i understand this correctly

To find a good starting point

Divide amp out put by efficiency then by voltage to get amperage that amp will pull.

(do this for all amps in your system and add the results together)

Add the amperage from what the vehicle needs.

It's not a perfect science but a rough estimate.

Soo my understanding is my Apms are 480W rms + 210W rms + 1200Wrms = 1890W rms

so lets say they are 80% efficient

1890 / .80 = 2362.5

2363/ 13V = 182 Amps

so wait i need a battery with 182 AH ?

You have to do each amp individually, most amps are between 65-75% efficiency. Don't forget to figure out amperage draw of the car.

And you wouldn't need 1 batt that has that high of an ah rating but rather just a total of x ah. The rated.amperage if the alt cam be included in the total ah needed.

Also at higher voltages you will have less amperage draw and the math doesn't account for voltage drop.

So say you car need 60 amp and the stereo needs a total of 200 amps at 13v. say the alt is 100 amp unit you would need a total of at least 100ah worth of batteries. Can be a single battery or multiple batteries.
