My new build starts tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

So it's finally time for me to build a new PC, been waiting a while since my current machine is actually still performing very well, it's a i5 760 quad. I have been waiting since around 2010 to do this so I am excited to do this build. And since I have a few things in my current PC that are still good, they will be reused.

Reused components are as follows;

PSU Corsair 850TX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009

RAM Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600 (16gb total): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

Video Card EVGA GTX660 2gb: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/geforce-gtx-660-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/6820043.p?id=1218808244387&skuId=6820043&st=categoryid$abcat0507002&cp=1&lp=2

The new components are as follows:

CPU Intel i5 4670k: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899

CPU Cooler Arctic Freezer V2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134

Motherboard MSI Z787M: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130737

SSD Samsung EVO 250gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248

Case Corsair C70 Olive Green: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139015

I will be running Win7 Ultimate 64 still as I have worked with Win8 and Win8.1 and I just cannot get myself to like it. I picked the motherboard because for the price it was the best value and I LOVE MSI boards. I picked the processor after doing a few weeks of solid research on cache levels and hyper threading. And I found enough evidence to satisfy myself that an i7 CPU is more of bragging rights for gaming because most (including current) games cannot and do not use hyper threading, let alone more than one core of the processor. Some games do use more than one core (BF4 I think does) but no use of the hyper threading, and the minimal benefit of the 4mb of extra level 3 cache is again a minimal benefit when gaming. I am sure someone will disagree and say an i7 will perform better, and to a small degree I can agree with that but when you are on a budget the i5 4670K will do stellar.

Some might ask why not go with water cooling, simply put again budget. As well I have been using the Arctic Freezer coolers since V1 of it and I have had GREAT results with them. Add all this to my dual 23" monitors which will be getting a small upgrade, going to wall mounts VS desktop stands and I cannot wait to get this up and running.

The total spent was right at $700 before shipping.

gpu sucks... hate to be negative but that gpu is gonna hang itself gaming on dual monitors, just sayin.

**EDIT** that gpu will hang itself gaming on 1 monitor, better keep the details to medium and resolution less then 1080i, otherwise choppy choppy choppy

Funny because I play BF4 and CoD Ghosts on max settings and have no stutters or hangs.

that is funny cause what i consider playable and what you consider playable are completely different things obviously.

Nobody plays games on dual monitors. He plays on one monitor at 1080p and the other screen likely has Steam or a browser window or something else open. He's not playing across 2 screens at 3840x1080 or else he'd have the bezel dead center where his crosshairs are. Nvidia surround also doesn't support 2x1 configurations so he couldn't play like that even if he wanted to.

Some people are fine gaming at 30FPS. Almost every console shooter runs at 30FPS (modern COD titles are an exception) and I don't hear cries of "unplayable" coming from anyone but PC gamers. I play at 60+FPS like most enthusiasts but not everyone is bothered by it. I played Halo titles at 30FPS for 10 years and it never seemed to be much of an issue other than Halo 4 split screen (~10FPS dips are not fun for anyone). The GTX 660 will play BF4 at a constant 30-40 FPS. That's not ideal but it's certainly playable.

wtf is lolcats?

I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers.

I was hoping for 150 :(.

I was hoping she would let me put it in her butt

Yup single monitor on gaming, and I am well over 30fps, with optimized settings but everyone has their own opinion so he thinks my card sucks oh well.
