Ddescape15 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I have a 2004 ford escape with a 270 singer alternator, I have a 750cca agm platinum battery from I riellys, this is the 3rd battery I have had to replace. Everything is good for a couple months or so then I will go out one day to start my car and nothing not even a click from the relay. I charge at 15.1~ volts but I can't figure out why my batteries keep dying. I am still building my system so this car has never seen an amp yet. Singer gave me a plug f For the alternator to bypass the factory cable and it has one one which he told me to connect it somewhere that gets power when the key is on so I attached it to my fuel pump fuse. Does anyone know what this issue is or how it could be fixed?? Thanks
SnowDrifter Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 1. Confirm that you have no power draw with the car off 2. 15.1 hot? That could certainly cause your issues. I've never understood the boner people get charging so high. I had my alt set to 14.0v when I had a 12v system. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Ddescape15 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 I thought about putting on an external regulator. Since it charges so high. I will have to check about power draw when it's off.
SnowDrifter Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Other option is you can send the alt back to Singer at have a 14v regulator put on instead of the 14.8 regulator that's in there now. Putting on an external regulator needs some modification to the alternator itself. Plus you need to educate yourself a bit about batteries since it isn't temperature compensating like an internal regulator. I can help you with the battery education part if that's the route you want to go down. But Singer will need to be the one that converts the alt to external regulation ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Ddescape15 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Well I called singer last night and he reccomend I buy the xs power voltage control module. From what I've read about it, it utilizes the factory harness and everything. So I'm going to try and get in touch with xs power to find out which one i need.
Ddescape15 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 The harness is a pain to get to and I don't have time until the weekend to get pictures. Because the alternator is in the bottom right of the engine.. I have to take the wheel off and everything else
SnowDrifter Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Then I'll ask this: what does the harness do? Is it a relay? Or what? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Your alternator could be staying on causing the draw.. 14.9 is Maximum charging voltage for a 12 volt battery 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
