I have a yellow top that puts out right around 450amps I want to get a second battery I was going to go with a 600 amp second battery but I read thet if Ur second battery is bigger then Ur first it will just draw of the first one so does this mean that I can only go with a 450amp second battery I'm buying a Q2200 two hds300 12's don't worry looking into a alt right now

that's cranking amps, it only effects when you first start your car before your alt takes over.

swap the optimas out for good agm batteries. like the ones they sell at sears (the AGM style ones).

if you're going to get an alt, only look at mechman or dc power.

Any AGM batt should be good to -40F.

Optima Batts are OK but not what they used to be since they got sold and moved to Mexico.

But, most an AGM battery can be connected to another AGM Battery.

Yellowtops are AGM. So get any other AGM of any size and you will be fine.

It's really when you mix chemistry that you have an issue.

For example. A wet cell and AGM have different ESRs. So their natural resting voltage will be different.

This different will cause a small amount of current to flow between the batts even when no load is present. This will keep the plates warm and reduce the life of the batts.
