sbg Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 about to pick up a 2001 focus se from my father in law for cheap. Car is in vary good shape and only has 67k on it. Being that I have a new 2013 sportage and don't want to kill it with my system and is the family car. I was thinking of the focus as my "system" car. So I wanted to know if they make good cars to put a system in. And see what others have done. I would be looking at putting my 2-12" hdc3 in it with a SQ 3500. In a 5cuft trunk wall. So we got some average ones. Ate those in about 20k. Third set we got nice pirellis.Got four wheel alignment, rotated every 3k with oil change and that lasted like 20k. 4th set we said fuck it and got cheapo no brand walmart tires. Lasted around 30k before they traded it in. Moral of the story cheap ass tires are the way to go lol. Stock sound seemed to travel well through the cabin to me so that is good I reckon. alaskanzx5 Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 I have the 2000 zx3, never had an issue with it eating tires though. even have a 2003 zx5 in Alaska at my dads and ive put at least what the tires where rated to get as for as milage on them. been driving a focus for the last 6 years. the zetec dohc engine for these cars most people make up to a 250ampt alt I think mechman only does a 230-240amp singer a 250. pcm controlled alt like to sit around 13.5-13.8 hot up 15.1 cold. the seat will fold down and you can most likely do 2 12s sealed firing forward (the term walled trunk is a sore spot for members on here, technically called a sealed off trunk). there was someone on this forum running around 5k rms in his focus (hatchback) doing over a 150 with 2 12s everything in the cargo area. the hatchbacks of course are great for stereos but I don't know about the sedans. one way to find out is build and test. fyi, pending engine (I think the se has the spi sohc) they a prone to vacuum leaks on the intake hoses, thermostat housing leaks, and wheel bearing will start going out around 100k-150k miles usually. once one goes they all go. the rear are easy and can be done in less then 30 min each. the front have to be pressed so it takes time. rear wheel bearing cost is around $60 with a new drum bearing already pressed. front is around 60-150, best to replace the hub when you do the front. the hub is prone to cracking from the bad wheel bearing. besides that keep up on maintance and it will last for up to 200k if not more. I know a few people that put almost 300k on theirs before selling it and getting something newer. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
