Hotdog Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 so I have always wanted to get a Truck to haul stuff around and I found a really nice looking Truck. Here are a few Pictures of it. It has a clean Car-fax but has high mileage currently 202,000. I heard they are good well into the 300,000 range if well maintained and this one has been by its appearance. I have them holding the truck for me right now. I did do some reading and seen where spark plug changes are a bitch in these because they break off in the head. I would have to assume that with 200,000 mile this issue should have been addressed by now. If anyone reading has a F-150 in the year range what are the quirks that you have experienced. bighossf150 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 I have a 06 xlt with a 4.6 and haven't had 1 problem with it. it just doesn't have much power and gets shit gas mileage Used to have a loud truck 2009 Corvette Z06, H/C/I, 150 shot, g force tune, 730rwhp/690rwtq 2013 F-150 limited, MPT Tune, leveled on 35"s

Which the sticker shows it is about the same as my 4.6 in my Explorer/Mountaineer 14 City/18 highway. I did test drive it and it drives like a car and is real quiet inside. boom50cal Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Which motor is it? 4.6 and 5.4 2 VALVES are easy to change a spark plug on. The 3 valve motors fucking suck dick to work on. 202,000 mi, if you can snag it for like $6500 you're doing great. Everything looks clean, like an older guy probably owned it. Hell, my dad just bought a 03 Fx4 SuperCrew with a 5.4 a couple months ago with 170k on the clock...still runs like a mother fucker. Last year we bought an 04 SuperCab with a 4.6 2 valve that had an elongated valve... Cheap fix. New valves, headbolts, and gaskets...ran great. If it's anything major, as in having to pull a head off, repairs get expensive because the cab has to come off. Not neccessarily HAS to come off, just a HELL of a lot easier to do without the cab on there. Let me know if it has a 4.6 2 valve, I have K&N 57 series cold air intake and a Diablo Predator tuner too... Hotdog Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 it is the 5.4 Triton 3v I would think the plugs have been addressed by 200,000 and I guess they make an extraction tool for it now so the head does not need to come off. boom50cal Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 They should have been changed a few times by 200k. It costs $75 a plug to remove them if they are broken at my dad's dealership. That one looks CLEAN as hell though... 5.4 3v is a damn good motor. Jump on it if it's less than $7k. Plus the matching leer topper and an added trailer towing package. 06f150s-cab Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Looks very clean both inside and out, especially for a truck with 200k+. The spark plugs are notoriously a bitch to replace due to their tendency to break, however there is a tool called the isle tool that helps you remove the broken plugs (I think it's like $30ish). Also the 3v is very loud. What I mean by this is that: 1. It's a pretty big motor. 2. The most annoying noise are the vct solenoids, which can be (supposedly) fixed by switching to 10w40 or compareable oil. 3. Other mechanical noises that can loud at times. 4. The clutch fan is very loud at start up, this can be fixed by going to an e-fan setup. I guess what I'm getting at is that it isn't as quiet as a Prius, expect lots of weird ticking and mechanical noises. I don't mean to hate on the 3v, it's a good motor but it (like everything else) has its shortfalls. I have a 06 fx4 supercab and love it, just not the gas millage. That's about a 36k foot view of the F-150 from off the top of my head, if you really want to learn about it go read either f150forum or f150online for more info.
