JP-12 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 My amp and subs are all hooked up right now, but with the waaaay wrong gauge wire. If I were to go unhook the power cable from my battery and nothing else, would I damage my amp if I listened to music with the power cable unhooked? I'm kinda tired of driving in silence til all my stuff gets shipped to me haha
Amart88 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Why not just unhook both if you are not using it and replacing the wire anyways. If you need to replace your power wire with a larger gauge, chances are you need to do the same to the ground. My 2005 s10 blazer build. 4 zcon 18's walled.
rockFord_Expedition Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 You running your mids/highs off of your head unit and your subs off of the amp, and you just want to eliminate the subs for the time being? Why not just pull the fuse? Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire
JP-12 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 That's why I was asking cuz I honestly don't know what I am doing and I don't want to mess anything up, but I really want to learn and get experience with car audio just no one I know is really into car audio that can help me out so I've been tryin to research stuff and ask question on here. The fuse I can't just pull unless I take the whole fuse holder off the power wire. I have to require everything smaller gauge wire anyway so I was just gonna pull the power wire off the battery first, I was trying to make sure there was nothing to do before that. Now that I really think about it it's pretty obvious cuz if you pull the (+) wire off the battery then there's no power goin back there whatsoever, so nothing can happen I think?
JP-12 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 And yes I'm running my mids/highs from my head unti
Amart88 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 If you only have one battery up front, disconnect the negitive wire, remove amp completely and reconnect negitive wire. My 2005 s10 blazer build. 4 zcon 18's walled.

What kind of fuse holder do you have that you have to remove it from the wire just to get the fuse out? You should have a fuse close to your battery, installed on the positive wire. I don't see how it can be so hard to pull a fuse, or why you would make it hard on yourself to do so. Fuses should always be easy to get to. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Your remote turn on wire also carries voltage, so if you go pulling your amp out, or just disconnecting wires you need to account for that also.
