Am I missing something here? They don't look like the same parts too, I thought each capacitor had a pole on each end and where a lot bigger. Kranny
i would not use that specific product for car audio. tiny power connector. that shit will melt if you try to use an amp on it LOL. only super cap installs i've seen are where people use thick aluminum buss bars and hook the caps up that way. iwannabeloud
Those are 350 farad each. I think you're thinking about the 3000 farads ones I don't put images in my signature to let people know I mean business.
TheMonolith2001
Those are 350 farad each. I think you're thinking about the 3000 farads ones yeah that's it! Still that's 2100 farad right? Still pretty good. It looks like it is also sold as a kit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultracapacitor-Module-KIT-Battery-Eliminator-Car-Audio-Starting-Remote-Solar-/301128832966?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461cad57c6 Could I buy that and beef up the connections? iwannabeloud
I'd just buy one 3000farad at a time for like 70 bucks until you get six I don't put images in my signature to let people know I mean business.
Wicks
Those are indeed ultracaps but they are for low power/current applications. You'll need to look up the specs on the caps and look for "ripple current" which needs to be LARGE. The Maxwell 3000F caps have a max current of 1900A which is well suited for car audio. Those smaller caps above would burn up at those currents. You'll also need six in series to be able to handle the voltage in a car (12-16V). alaskanzx5
And 6 of the ultracaps mentioned would actually give you a 500 farad bank that is good up thoroughly 16.2v charging. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz. TheMonolith2001
Damn, I was hoping this was something new that would bring the cost down a lot. Oh well. I don't have a huge monster system like some of you guys so I was hoping that might cut it for my 1500w-ish setup. Why are they suggesting it for starting your car though? A starter uses quite a bit of current I believe.
Wicks
A starter motor takes huge amounts of current when first turned over. A capacitor releases huge amounts of current instantly, faster then a battery which is chemical. Therefore a cap bank could help augment the starting ability. I wouldn't trust that ebay kit though with 12ga wire. It might work once or twice but I'd be skeptical of its long term use. Bump4life
i has just bought lots of caps. but only selling to people that have done their research and know how to use properly. Before you go off trying to use these I strongly urge you to fully understand how caps work. what they do in parallel series, etc. How supercaps are different than normal caps, and how much energy these can store. there are a few good threads on here and on caco to help you learn.
