Recommended Posts

Because hes basicslly called everyone here an idiot when they tried to help him previously. To say hes got a history here would be an understatement

Gotcha. Didnt know that, just see the question.

Like I said, check the DD-1 harness. If the wires are bad inside that RCA jack, it would be jumping the positive of the speaker output to the ground on the amplifier. I'm guessing that would cause an amplifier to go into protect,

this is the only way a DD-1 can cause an amp to go into protect....damaged harness wires. Usually from being pulled too hard. Check with a DMM that the red and black are not internally shorted. If they are, email [email protected] we will get you a new one out. It's usually never damaged right out of the box, its almost always user related damage, but i don't mind getting you a new one to get you back on the road.

FYI: The alligator clip has been phased out for a pair of probes due to the fact some amps tuning procedure with the DD-1 don't work properly when using the actual ground for reference. Sometimes you have to use the speaker (-) and that is ok. If your amp went into protect for any reason using the dd-1 i highly suggest you check the harness.

checked harness with DMM, 001 for both POS and NEG on the harness

edit:

facebooked TD himself about it... here is what he said. (after giving him the serial number of dd-1)

"We had a few of these early units that had a diode in them that could only handle about 80V. Please send it to us along with the test probe. Just leave your return address in the box and we will upgrade it with the higher voltage replacement parts and send it right back to you."

if the car doesn't stall, you have enough voltage.

Like I said, check the DD-1 harness. If the wires are bad inside that RCA jack, it would be jumping the positive of the speaker output to the ground on the amplifier. I'm guessing that would cause an amplifier to go into protect,

If the wires inside the rca harness where shorted out, they would still be shorted out while it was connected via the speaker pos to pos and speaker neg to neg, or speaker pos to pos and ground on the battery. Both methods would cause and issue. not just one or the other. Shorting something out is shorting something out.

First as CJ said, I would most efficiently remove all speaker wires from the amp and retry..

Second if the issue still is there Id look into other symptoms, and would test RCA cords to make sure those are not shorted out.

Id unplug them from the amp and test each rca channel on the dd1 for a clean signal, if you have a non steady signal your rcas are the cause.

With how many people hot swap rcas, blow picco fuses, and blame pioneer and even other manufacutres for these kinda mistakes it wouldnt surprise me one bit that something with the rca's or the deck are causing issues.

If the signal is still bad with new rcas, id next be checking the deck.

If deck is fine bench test the DD1 on another amp/radio that is not in your vehicle, but a friends and see if that issue follows or if the dd1 is fine.

This is called trouble shooting!

Tested DEH-64bt for distortion and signal. NOTHING. testing a friends head unit. NOTHING. tested the same friends amp for distortion. did same thing as it did on the nendo 3500. dd-1 is now sent to tony d for repair.
