capacitor setup fuse vs. circuit breaker

Recommended Posts

based on my standards i like to have 200 Farads for every 1000 true rms. and ideal capacitor for your system would be around 50 Farads. 1 F for 1000rms is wayyy under.

Another member on here that builds his own cap banks would tell you not to go less then 100farads per 1k watts.

take the cap out and do the big 3.

where is your ground? Needs to be a solid piece of metal sanded and cleaned of real good. Frame grounds are the most preferred.

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

The amps have their own fuses.

The fuse by the battery should be rated to the wire, not the system.

As for caps.

They can serve two purposes, noise filters and energy storage.

You don't have enough capacitance for energy storage so just a few farads will provide some filtering and that's about it.

You can keep it as it won't hurt anything.

Just make sure all your connections are solid, along with the Big3.

If you do upgrade to a much larger cap bank then keep in mind that you also need the alternator capacity to keep those sources charged.

Battery's and large cap banks can also turn into loads themselves if you don't have the alternator to keep up with the charging.
