I've got 3 15's building a new box for them. tuning to 32hz, a website says min of 154sq in. One person told me 120 sq in for musicality. Looking for SQL honestly. Box vol is around 12-13.5 cubes (depending on port size) before displacements. going to be right around 12 when finished. Using Brutus BRZ15D4 subs. 1000 WRMS SO main question i need answered, port area or area per sq foot. 120 sq in, or 154 sq in. OR 12-16 per cube???

And i will take your advice and run with it, i just like to hear more input from others before the saw blade starts spinnin and dust starts a flyin.
Cj Kumz Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 Port area per cube (12-16) is a general approximation so you can avoid port noise. In your case since the site recommends min of 154 sq in, you divide either 154/12 or 154/16 which will give you 12.9 cubes or 9.6 cubes respectively. So those are the box volumes you should look at if you wanna use the sites minimum (154 sq in). Krakin Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 There are a few things that are wrong with port per cube; a major thing that happened with the port per cube was that people came up with the absurd reasoning that the port per cube affected your playable bandwidth, saying that the lower it was the larger your range would be and the opposite for the higher. Another is that with modern subs the excursions cause insane amount of air to travel and to keep the air under control at a reasonable velocity you need very large ports. ncc74656 Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 on that calculator it gives you "length of a side for square vent". how exactly does the port dimensions play into the audio quality/volume of the sub if the port area is assumed constant? nothing, gutted
