I think it depends on the application. If all you need is 100 or so amps at idle and 240 peak then go for it. Should be perfectly fine for a mild system. And I second what Audiofanaticz said.

CURRENT SYSTEM:

  • Alternator:
    1. Stock alt on mids/highs
    2. Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v
  • Batteries: (2) XS D1400s
  • Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks
  • Headunit: 80-PRS
  • Sub Amp: DC 5.0k
  • Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones
  • Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
  • Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4
  • Active Components:
    • Mids RE XXX 6.5c
    • Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar)
  • Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab.

As Karkov stated I have been starting to build my own alts, and I do have a successful prototype. hairpin 270, will do around 240-250 HOT. with a 3 phase stator youll be lucky to get 200 out of that kit if thats a cold rating.

honestly if you are rebuilding a 3phase alt dont mess with that kit. you can have someone rewind your stock core to any specs you want.

The main issue is getting parts. That is 90% of the battle because the industry is so protected and no one wants to give any answers.

If it were me I would buy the kit and try it. get familiar with it. but I hope you have tools becuase they cant be put together with run of the mill tools. need correct tools to do it right.

after diving into the alternator game (mainly hairpin), I would say stay clear of those sites because a lot of them are chinese knock offs of the real thing. i dont dip much into the delco pool since i am using denso parts. but for 120 its worth a shot. ive put over 4 grand into R&D for my alts over the past few months so 120 to test some parts is just dipping your toes in. but like i said, that 120 can increase greatly if you dont have the right tools. and realistically you should have a welder of some sort to do it the right way.

I agree pretty much with everything you all have said. And the only reason i am even considering this is, this kit is not a Chinese kit. But a true american delco replacement upgrade kit.

Appreciate the input guys. If i end up getting it, i will let you know how it turns out.

not trying to kill your vibe but delco doesnt make thier parts in us. it is coming from taiwan china, korea or alike. the chinese ones at least from what i have seen as usual are the ones to stay away from. if you are considering building your alt i strongly urge you to find a rewinder near you. there is a guy in indiana that does great work! all you need to do is send him a core and he can wind it up for you.
