AqFi Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Hey guys, I just bought a digital volt meter but I'm not sure how to hook it up. The issue I am having is that the meter has a power and ground but no remote wire. I would like to see the voltage that my amplifier is receiving so I ran a run of wire from the positive on my meter to the power on my amplifier. I ran the negative on the voltage meter to a ground. I was hoping that since the amplifier turns on and off with a remote wire so would the meter but this isn't the case. It remains on even when the car is completely off. Is there a way for me to measure the voltage straight from the amplifier and still have the voltage meter turn on and off with the car?
808faka Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 holy crap 1 dollar for a volt meter. thats a first for me. usually they have a third wire for a remote turn on, dont see one on there.

I've had it hooked up though and it looks great and is pretty responsive so after I figure out how to get it hooked up for good I'll be happy with it.

808faka Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 if its not a easy fix theres always others around 10 to 20 bucks and they have a remote turn on wire, could save you some hassle if you dont mind spending a little more.

AqFi Posted June 2, 2014 Author Report Posted June 2, 2014 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147517-wiring-voltage-meter/ My dad got me a switch after I asked him about my meter. I guess he was right haha. I hooked it up but I still was having issues. I never ran a wire to the negative on the battery though. Looks like I'm tearing more panels out of my car to run a little wire though the firewall
