It's 2014, why do new amps still clip / distort?

Ok maybe it's my limited understanding but it seem like clipping and is one of the bigger consirns when getting the most of your bass. I've seen friend blow perfectly good subs but clipping the piss out of their amp.

So why don't manufactures just design the amp to hit a limiter right at or before clipping like an engine in a car?

This seems way to obvious, I must be missing something here

because every deck, processor, etc etc has different gain points to match the voltage of the rails of the board. its not possible to make an amp not have a clipping point, you need to set the gain so your system doesnt have a clipping point

make sense? its hard to explain

if the user cant tune things correctly then they shouldn't be in the audio game.

amps are stupid. they do whatever YOU tell them to do. if you overdrive them, they will clip. literally nothing you or anybody else can do about that aside from not being a dumbass.

for them to do that there would have to be a magical standard output voltage. the gain is a voltage match. you are matching the output voltage of the headunit. you cant put a max setting because everyones car is different. everyones headunit is different. everyones electrical is different. every input or output on the amp effects clipping. there would be no way to make a cutoff point that would work for everyone.

i have heard some rockford amps i think have a clip limiter or something that may reduce output when signal is clipped. something like that.

Amps should have a built in clip light. Shit, my crossfire eq from back in 2000 had a clip indicator. Turn up the gain until the clip light flashes and then back off. OP is right, it's 2014, there should be more tech in today's amps.

most amps have a clip light on the bass knob. i know the dc dd aq/sq ones are spot on. what people dont realize is that, that clip light indicates if the amp is clipping and overdriving, not if the incoming signal is clipped from headunit. so all the claims that the clip light is inaccurate is due to the fact their source is clipped.

not to mention the music they play.

amp is only as good as your signal, if it's a shitty youtube ripped clipped to high hell song its pretty obvious that your amp will clip as well

Even if all the equipment was standardized to not have a gain you could easily get clipping from badly recorded music so it negates the fact that there is no way to change the gain.

Clipping starts with the source of your music and continues through the system till it reaches the speakers and plays.
