shanesauce
So I have recently purchased a '99 miata and while audio wasn't the reason I bought this car it will be a daily which means it needs beat. I have never heard a system in a car with a soft top/convertible and I'm not sure how it will sound? I obviously won't be expecting serious beat and for it to sound decent I assume the top needs to be in the up position? I am looking at (2) Sundown SD 8's sealed around .6 cubes in the trunk to keep it simple and on the small side. Any comments on how it will sound in the cab with the top up? - 2012 Mustang 3.7 Manual - Audio under construction
slowfkncar
I did one with a 12" zv3 & saz-2500. Man it sounded horrible.lucky you, miatas actually have steel trunks. Best output i could achive was 134db lol. Thats after 200$ deadener, and fiberglassing the trunk floor and any flexing panel, even cut a big hole in the trunk by the back seat. Honestly one of the worse cars for subs lol.
All-Or-Nothing
I've got a 6 Series BMW Convertible, 1 Sundown E8V3 in a .75 ported box and pushing 400 watts RMS. This little thing hits hard, really hard. Those 2 SD's should sound good top up or down.
Ahmed Johnson
I had a system in a tracker. It sounded horrible until someone cut the top up and stole my shit. Since you have a hard trunk you should be good.
shanesauce
Thanks for the input guys, I assume the output might be better with a hardtop but that won't be until later down the road. In this case I will keep going right along with my plan. - 2012 Mustang 3.7 Manual - Audio under construction
philrab
Only setup I ever saw in a Miata that really worked was a down firing 8 or 10 in the passenger footwell. Guys carpet the box, and lay the floormat over it kinda like a false floor. If you're interested, I can try to dig up pics of what I'm talking about. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount.
