Ritch40 Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 What is a good port ratio? I am sorry to be asking this. I know i have seen this in other posts on this forum. Ive been looking thru posts for 2 hours and have yet to find any mention of what a proper ratio would be. Thank you in advance for any information offered!!
Triticum Agricolam Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 1:1 is the best. As you get farther away from that your port starts getting less efficient. As long as you keep it under 1:5 you should be fine though. Raptorman Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Port ratio is the relation to the height and width of the port.Such as a 5" x 5" port will be a 1:1. 1996 GMC Sonoma Four Fi BTL Neo 18's In 2:1 6th Order Bandpass 2 Ampere 5k's @ .5 TEAM FI TEAM #LITHIUMCANTDEMO On 10/20/2013 at 0:37 AM, KillaCam said: Fucking with a Prius driver is like making fun of a disabled kid. fecupe2001 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 so, this theory assumes that a 100 sq of port 10 x 10 is louder than a 25 x 4 port? Krakin Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Not necessarily louder, but less surface area creates less room for Boundary layer and more room for the actual air flow. It's either triticum or BB that remember the formula for the efficiency of different ratios. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
fecupe2001 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 i dunno, i have to disagree, no offense but imo, it actually depends on the cabin itself, not the shape of the port, at least i learned that on my explorer before the wall, would love to see someone else´s tests about this rule, but it sounds to me like the infamous 12-16 sq of port per cubic feet rule I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
