2000 F150 - 2400 watts total what to do regarding electrical.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Going to be putting a new amp in my truck (SAZ-2000D). I'll have my 400w 4 channel amp on top of that. Currently run about 1400w (1000w monoblock + 400w 4 chan) and have no dimming, but I know with the 2000D I'll need to upgrade some things.

Assuming 80% efficiency I need to sustain 3000 watts input or 210A of current at max tilt but with music that's pretty hard to sustain a 210A draw anyways...

Currently have my stock 130A alternator and the stock ford battery (it's still good, has good resting voltages).

Could I go straight for an alternator upgrade and finish my big three upgrade. If I do this could I keep my stock battery? I really don't want to buy batteries AND an alternator.

So far I've found this it seems to be ideal 210A for my audio and 60A for my daily truck needs which I think is plenty...

any suggestions welcomed, I reside in Canada so I can order from Canadian retailers. I also have a Kinek shipping address so I can order anything from the USA and bring it back with me (I'm 1.5 hours from the border).

you might be able to get away with adding an extra battery, also upgrading the stock if that doesn't work. I'm surprised you have no dimming running 1k ,guess it depends on what amp you have.if you ever go bigger you will definitely need an alternator.

If you upgraded your alt to something over 200A, you could get away with just the Alt and big 3.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

getting the alternator would be the best option, but i wouldn't be surprised if your stock battery gives up on you.

Wouldn't be surprised either. It's the original...like when the truck was manufactured original. Hehe.

In my 08 f150 I'm running an ab2000.1 on a stick 120a alternator and a d3400 up front with no dimming, drop to 13.5 at worst. At a minimum a new battery is in order. And the big three then go from there.

Will I see a difference with the D3400 up front over the ford OEM battery?

I filled out for a quote from mechman...not really sure where to buy H/O alternators from in Canada...I've been hearing some things about regulators...will I need one or am I good since my truck is older. (2000 F150)
