meade916
i never knew how hard it was to type with a finger that is out of commission. Here is how our great day went south fast.we spent 2 weeks preparing for our trip to Sand Mountain, NV a giant 800-900 foot tall mountain of sand out in the middle of the Nevada desert. It isn't JUST a mountain of sand, it is surrounded by miles of dunes and a campground at the base. After driving almost 4 hours we arrive....and the place is EMPTY. Not even a fly in the air. Not even a lizard. Kinda spooky but oh well. So we turn off the main road to find a spot to camp and within 30 feet, the F150 (2wd) sinks into the sand. We are stuck, like Chuck. We are close to the hard pack so you would think it's not that bad but oh man, we were not going anywhere.Wasn't a soul in site to help us. We were on our own. Keep in mind, i still have the trailer and the Polaris on it and tons of supplies. I remove the Polaris and the Trailer and we painstakingly push it through the sand to the dirt road. Next we dig around the truck tires for 30-40 minutes and when nothing works panic starts to set in. But no worries. Settle down, we will work through this somehow. Might be a long night and a $325 tow (i called for a quote), but we will get through it. So anywayer was in my way at this point., i had a floor jack and i raised it up the whole 1/4" it would let me. From there i started to take a 4x4 block of wood, one under each tire and try to use those for traction. It wasn't working so i took a big jagged black rock about the size of a football and smashed the 4x4 block attempting to get it to go under the tire more. With everything i had i hit my finger that was holding the block. (ya i know DUMMY!). My finger starts gushing with blood and i notice half of my nail is completely broken in two and bleeding everywhere. The wife frantically is digging for our first aid kit and with me overheating, half in a panic and now gushing with blood, i start going into shock. I start dry heaving in the sand about to pass out. I get in the truck and let the a/c blow on me while she finishes fixing up my finger. I come out of my little episode a brand new man and dive back into the game. So we score a piece of plywood about 100 yards away by a dumpster. It is an old 1/4" piece that was very bendy...which was good as i snapped it in half the long way, one for each tire. I raise the truck up and after her and i dig for another 10 minutes, we got the wood about 1/2" under the tire. I throw it in reverse for one last yee-haw and boom i grab traction and we get out! The trailer was in the way so i had to stop before i hit it. Guess what...yup stuck again. This time i didn't spin the tires out i just relaxed, dropped the plywood back behind them and lurched my way out to safety. We were so happy and relieved. After 4 hours of driving and at least an hour of panic, sweat, sunburn and injury, i said "screw this, lets hit the dunes anyway" The wife has never been on the dunes so we spent about 45 minutes carving. But remember we are the ONLY ones out there. If my RZR breaks down for any reason we are FUCKKED. Yes, with 2 k's. So we got a little ride in, pulled up on the trailer, tied down and went home.Sand mountain 1 - the Meades 0we will win next time i hope. Check out the very few pics we took. BES' BELIEVE i wasn't videoing and taking pics while we were in panic mode. Youtube was the furthest thing from my mind haha.First pics of the trip and then WARNING, nasty finger nail pics at the end. I got these sand paddles just for this trip (and more to come). I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. meade916
gotta give it up to my wife. We got out to safety as a team. It wasn't all me at all. Without her it would have been much harder. Always good to have a beautiful woman by your side but even better when you have one as strong and smart and willing to get her hands dirty if need be. I think our "PSR" went up a little bit that day. 4 hours drive, 1 hour panic and injury, 45 minutes riding and 4 hours back home. What a day. 3 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong! meade916
Steve, for a good truck that is built for sand sorta... would be the ford raptor just saying. no 2wd with stock tires is built for the sand unless it has sand tires or something compatible. I am sure any brand truck that is true 4x4 wouldn't have this problem. Time to trade the war pony in this will never happen to us as long as i can help it. I think if i would have aired down i might have made it easier. I had a compressor too so i coulda filled them back up. I just didn't want to have a ford, in the sand, with flat tires that is now still stuck LOL. We got it though whew! 1 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong! _paralyzed_
Why not pull the truck with the RZR? A jerk with a snap strap would have got it moving. But hindsight blah blah blah, definitely bring the 4wd next time.
