dleccord
i see what chu mean now. but now why do dds extend their cones so high, the kevlar cones in particular? Quote refs: chode69, superduper
audiofanaticz
actually tc/audiopulse does cake on the glue on the former... they just smooth it really good. Looks like Im seeing mostly plastic former in that picture. And yes Im sure they do glue them good and all, not saying that they dont. Mine was built to stand up to pure power. I even got some crazy ass coils in mine. Thick square wire around my voice coil? but now why do dds extend their cones so high, the kevlar cones in particular? DDs are not the only ones who do it, lots of other companies do it. Im just using companies that I remember seeing pics of. I think a seen a few DCs like that too, but couldnt find pics earlier. Theres a few reasons, but Im not sure on what they all are, but a flatter cone will take up a little less air space inside the box, different frequency response, and I want to say they are louder
lance_aka_64
not plastic at all. that is the glue that looks like plastic. believe me i dismantled one of my epics and the former looks the same as that one. the glue is about 1/8" thick... even on an epic. Boon
Your sub looks IDENTICAL to an Atomic. Couldn't say if it's an AP or a Quantum but I had to re-read it to make sure it wasn't... I would try contacting them, that sub looks seriously like you mashed a different dustcap on an Atomic. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
MickyMcD
no Incorrect. All loudspeakers, bar planar magnetic drivers and coiless drivers, have formers. It's what the voice coil is mounted to. Technically, the voice coil is simply a solenoid. The solenoid is mounted to a former, or bobbin. A former is not an extension.
