SundownZ71 Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 So I just recently upgraded from a Sundown SA-10 to a SA-15, powering it on the same CT Sounds 500.1, roughly putting out 700 watts. The 15 is in a 4 cube box tuned to 32 hz. I had no heat problems with either subs or the amp until today, I moved the subsonic frequency under where I "guessed" 32 hz would be, reading somewhere that you tune it right under where your box is tuned at or a 1/2 octave below. Sounds way better than before I did so, but playing "In This Ho" on one of Decaf's zips for the entire song I started smelling something not sure what, so I felt the amp and dust cap of the sub and they were hot. Once again I had no problems like this before I moved the SSF. Am I doing something wrong? Help me out here.
afrakes Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Moving your sub sonic down too low can cause your sun to play under tuning of your box. Which can cause more thermal stress on your equipment, I.e. make it hot. Either put your ssf back to where it was or pay more attention/be aware that playing a really low tone song may cause problems with your equipment. with a 34hz tune your ssf should be set at/around 31hz. I wouldn't set it any lower than that though. Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
