69camaro Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 Guys, I think I may have made a horrible box design mistake. I made a ported box almost double the recommended size of JL's recommendation. I don't recall the dimensions off hand but the cubic feet was .7 per chamber. I also used 3" diameter PVC for the port. It is 18" measuring from one opening to the other. (diagonal) The sound quality is really good on the lower notes but once it starts getting into upper lower notes the sound level drops off quite a bit. So much that it sounds really weird. On rap music you can't really tell, but on rock n roll it sounds..... HORRIBLE. The ports are routed out of the chamber. Is this a direct relation into building the box to big ? The 69 Camaro has rear deck. The speakers firing upward in the cabin along with the ports.

philrab Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 If you run the specs through WinISD pro, that should ho you determine what your freq response is doing, and perhaps what you need to do to fix it. May be as simple as removing some net airspace (glue some 2x4 inside to take up space) or shorten your port. Next time I will edit to a smaller size box dimensions are 13.5 x 15.5 x 10 these are outside dimensions of the box If my figures are right and I take off 3/4" from each dimension it works out to right at 1 cu ft before speaker displacement.

About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.
