Dale Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Thanks guys although I don't think it will be seeing more power. Each sub is seeing around 2000wrms. the Youtube compression kills all the flex. It looks tame in the vid, can't even see the hair moving FYI I burped 141.9dBs in my SPL run just for a laugh, hehe. People got upset when I didn't turn it up, but that's all I needed to win. Is there a way you could upload an uncompressed version to megaupload or something? I wouldn't mind seeing this in full quality
RAD Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Up a full quality vid, cause this looks soft '91 Trooper - 12 x 15's
bobo333 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 any updates lately? awesome vids so far... need more tho oh and i noticed the fronts are gone in the new vids, whats going on there? ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^
Charger Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Didn't even realise this topic was bumped, well here's what's going on for the fronts. Here's where I started. Standard door card, looks shit. I should have changed it a long time ago but never 100% worked out what's happening in the frontstage. The overall look of this just dragged the interior down, most of the interior is black but these light brown trims just ruin it. They are dirty, falling to bits and need changing! These doors have lots of room to add speakers so shouldn't be painful to make look a lil better. First I strip off this 'padded' top trim to reveal shiny red duco underneath. This was the 'upmarket model' so it got the little bit of vinyl ontop the door, whoop-di-doo, Basil. I ripped it off and shined up the paint because it will need to match black. How it looked just removing that trash Door card removed, very very scarce Dynamat job, won't look like this for long! Stripping the ugly material off the stock door card. Tracing the shape onto a new piece of 3mm MDF, the standard card was rotten and cracked and will be binned Test fit on the door Test fit with the trimmings, note the ashtray, map pocket etc. have all been removed permanently. Some new clips, these will (try to) help the door card cling to the door at 150+ Old clip (Left) vs new clip, (Right) A couple of days passed and a package arrived, mystery box, what's inside? We'll open that later, here's another bulk pack of Dynamat Extreme, 36ft^2 for the front doors Here's what was in the mystery box, should sort out my lack of high frequencies I hope! Huge thanks to Digital Designs Australia for kindly providing the speakers and Alberts Car Stereo also for helping me out along the way and giving me great deals. Should be fun to make fit! Very basic looking speaker but should be all business when it comes time to make sound! Charger Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Early days, working out the position for the speakers. Make sure they all sit at the same angle. Trace an outline on it The dark line is where I'll be cutting, gives you an idea of the shape. Grilles sitting in place for an idea how it sits A quick whisk with the jigsaw and we have the first piece Started cutting speaker holes, they are quite deep so I need a decent spacer to get them to fit Cutting and routering the edges Cut out, but still rough, requires sanding Previous 150+ daily rides: Volvo 240 wagon 2 x DD Audio 9915s walled, Isuzu Trooper 6 x DD Audio 3515s walled clamshell, Lexus LX470 2 x Kicked Solo X 18s, Lexus LS400 4 x American Bass HD18 walled SMD - System of The Month August 2008 My Youtube Videos
Charger Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 The door trim, clearance cut out revealing the metal behind. The shape traced onto the metal with a permanent marker. Took a deep breath and started cutting the metal away. A good idea if you're going to try this, wind the window up so the saw doesn't hit the glass, just a hint Test fit of the grilles on the door Just the speakers mounted, looking finally like something Previous 150+ daily rides: Volvo 240 wagon 2 x DD Audio 9915s walled, Isuzu Trooper 6 x DD Audio 3515s walled clamshell, Lexus LX470 2 x Kicked Solo X 18s, Lexus LS400 4 x American Bass HD18 walled SMD - System of The Month August 2008 My Youtube Videos

Charger Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 I wasn't happy with the depth issue and wasn't able to wind the window down as far as I'd like, so time to change things. So off it comes Trace it, cut a new piece, but leave a rough gap of 5-10mm around the edge, why? You'll see soon Jigsawin Screw them together, see the gap around the edge Now we use a router flush trim to get them the same Now we have two pieces the same While I was working on that, I set up this 'jig' The side intrusion bar in the door had broken from the door skin so I attempted to glue it back onto the skin using a polyurethane glue, the battery adds weight to hold the two together whilst it dries. Still needs sanding, but getting there Here's the result of emptying the contents of your bulk pack on both front doors, I definitely noticed a difference, doors are MUCH heavier now, and close with a REAL thud this time Solid as a rock! and sealed up, no service holes. Shouldn't vibrate and should give me some good midbass! Put the door card back on! Charger Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Started loading the speakers up, much better depth now Can't wait to finish it But the driver's side needs finishing. This is all only a dry assembly, need to pull it all apart again to assemble it properly, then get it trimmed etc. Previous 150+ daily rides: Volvo 240 wagon 2 x DD Audio 9915s walled, Isuzu Trooper 6 x DD Audio 3515s walled clamshell, Lexus LX470 2 x Kicked Solo X 18s, Lexus LS400 4 x American Bass HD18 walled SMD - System of The Month August 2008 My Youtube Videos
JACK250 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Does the P/S on the doors stand for the Pro Sonics you will be upgrading to in future?
