Tarball Posted October 20, 2014 Report Share Posted October 20, 2014 I just got some recones for my RE MT v1 subs and the replacements are a bit different. I want to ask the pro's so here I am. If you just want to bash RE or do not have knowledge on the topic to share please reserve your comments and move along. I ordered a pair of recones from RE Audio for my V1 MT's. I did this just for better ohm reading at the amp (dual .7 coils vs dual 1.4). The .7 ohm coils that I got have slightly different cone material (old cones are thicker and harder). The voice coil is shorter and also has about half of the copper on it. The new VC extends about 1 3/16" into the motor whereas the old extends a good 1 1/2" into the motor. The cone material is both visibly different and seemingly structurally inferior to the original There VC is shorter (which is why it doesnt extend into the motor) and has about half the copper So my questions are. Do these things matter much. I mean will I still get the hard ass hitting beast mode sound out of them. Will they fall on their ass when i crank up the 5k on 16v charging maybe soon to be 18v charging? Is there enough VC in the motor for them to work. Am I just being a paranoid noob because this is my first recone and I don't fully understand what's going on at this level of audio. Look forward to responses. I think the first place I would have looked for recones would have been fi and then david at fixmyspeaker since they were the part of the original ones. the material is inferior. its not ever going to be the same quality as the og. did yu get a god deal on them I hope? Tarball Posted April 30, 2015 Author Report Share Posted April 30, 2015 I spoke with RE about this. They said these were the only coils they ever used in this model MT. Apparently they were reconed before i got them and sold to me as "new". The shorter coil is their "SPL" coil and the only use longer coils in the XXX for excursion. I went with PSI for recones here selling these cheap. Nothing wrong with them I'm just more a musical excursion guy vs an SPL guy.
