daimer
It's time for me to start working on the next enclosure. I will order the wood tomorrow. The box will be built with glue and dowels. It will be with interchangeable ports. I will start with flared PVC pipes, then I will try to make some octoports. I could also build a wooden round port in the near future. I also plan to do some testing on port efficiency with rectangular, square and round ports with the same area. Some rough sketches:If anyone has some ideas or tips, now is the time to share. daimer
First off, Happy New Year! I decided to update the log, so here goes: Assembling began with rough cutting the holes with a jigsaw. The baffles were glued together and were clamped using weights. Then I assembled the first layer with glue and screws, put in the corners and the third baffle.Time to double up.I think the screws are enough I used glue here, too. Soon after Christmas I began working on the first port. The glue isn't supposed to be used in cold, so I glued everything in my room. Little messy, sorry about that I connected the two parts using glue and then wraping it up with tape.It was then time for crimping some cables. I used 7 awg. (10mm2)I sanded the bottom sheet a bit so the woofer could "breathe" better.Mounting time: There is still a lot to do - I must fill the screw holes and mismatches, sand it, paint it, maybe add some resin inside and other small things. The first port was tuned WAY too low for this speaker - around 30-31hz (that includes the port being close to the hatch window). When I have more time I will make a 34, 36, and 39hz port for some higher scores. I may also do a port for burp applications. I'm not given up on the idea of making an octoport, just for now using PVC is easier and cheaper. So far I'm pleased with it - sure, it has its weak spots, but it was fun building and I'm learning in the process. I will update this when I have more updates. daimer
I have a few small updates: First thing to do was cut the volume of the box a little bit. Under the two pieces there is another one centered to help with strength and better sealing. Next I decided to build a port with a slightly higher tune. I also bought my first clamps Boy, do they make life easy! I will definitely buy many more. They are cheap ones, but I could do a few mods to make them better and stronger. Adjusting the mounting plate and making the bond stronger. Routing the port. When you don't have a router After the wood glue dried, I sealed everything up with some montage adhesive. Yeah, I did it before I went to bed And mounted. I'm very pleased with the result, I will do another one after my final exams with even higher tuning for scores. My last exam is on Tuesday and after that I'll be painting the box Wish me luck. I hope I could get a scholarship so I can buy a new headunit and some tools. We'll see what will happen.Cheers!
