Big difference, unless I'm just misunderstanding you. Be really specific about that point, cause that's going to have a HUGE effect on what we suggest. Based on Xmax and a 15" woofer, the math is suggesting 90" square inches of port (based on SD of an average 15" and 28mm of Xmax) I think that's a fairly conservative/large recommendation. SQ themselves for a 4.2 NET enclosure recommend 68 square inches of port area 19" long. What I'd recommend at this point is to download a copy of Torres enclosure calculator, start playing around with it, and find out what kind of net airspace you can get from the maximum dimensions you're dealing with. 4.2 cubes gross could very well be in the low 3.xx cube range once you take subwoofer and port volume into account. Greasemonkey2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 I will have around 4.4 gross. I just subtracted .2 for the woofer just as a guess. SQ doesn't have it on their website. Is it a good idea to have an external port exiting into my dash?
Ahmed Johnson Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 I wouldn't tune those that low. As far as power those subs could handle that, they are rated at 1250 a piece. Box size is a little small but you will be okay. If I were you, I would be looking at the 12s not the 15s. The box size is more suitable for them. I have to respectfully disagree. 4 cubes is PLENTY for that sub. In my build I have a HDC415 and I'm giving it 3.75 cubes net and it sounds fantastic. I just did a build for a buddy of mine with 2 HDS315's and the box was 7.04 cubes net so each sub is getting 3.5 and it also sounds great. You're going to want to give roughly 50 square inches of port for one of those subs. I thought he had 4 cubes for 2 of them

For some reason there are people out there that spread false information about these subs. I like to think of myself as being pretty damn diverse in the soundqubed lineup and I can strongly tell you that the HDC's can sound fantastic in the right box. A sub tailored more for competition doesn't have to sound bad.
