Amp shut off in cold weather

Possibly high voltage. I know my DC 2.0k used to do that when my alt was charging at 15.2V when it was cold. As KyLar said, let everything warm up first.

How cold are we talking? 5? or -30?

I don't even tun my amplifiers on until the inside of the cabin is warm. All it takes is a little bit of condensation forming on the inside of the amplifier and boom, you'll kill it.

I heat my amps up with the rear floor vent that also cools the box. Run them half way before going to the moon!

i don't know what my voltage is since my jeep does not have a volt meter in it and it is a Rockford Fosgate r600x5

Manual says 9-16V operating voltage, so it should be ok. Then again, so does a DC 2.0k and mine would shut off above 15.1V if I tried playing it at any volume above whisper. DC's reason was that different amps have different tolerances.

Take your DMM and measure it next time the amp shuts off.

i am probably going to be putting in a volt meter in the jeep some time over thanksgiving break so hopefully it doesn't shut off again before then because I don't have a DMM at school with me
