AlwaysUpgradingBASS Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 The equipment: 2 JVC Arsenal 350 rms each (now 1), hifonics hifi1000.1d mono block amp and a box tuned to 40hz with a labyrinth port (seperate chambers for each sub) I'm already dedicated to upgrading to sundown x12 d2 but my income will only allow me to buy 1 each paycheck (if I decide to buy two. Ok, now that I got that out of the way here's my dilemma and question(s). My jvc arsenals were amazing hitting the 35-50hz range which really got air moving in my accord. Out of my buddies set ups mine was worst at hitting lows 20-25 but won by a landslide in the higher-lows of 40-50hz. My buddy has an x12 d4 and it just thrashes the lows.it hits 40-50hz range nice, but not as much chest thump as mine would playing the same song so finally all your reading and keeping up with me will finally have it's climax. I want to keep my arsenal sub and put the sundown x12 in with it in a new box. My theory is it will smash the lows and mids. Will the two different sounds each sub makes just ruin my overall sound or will this help me find the mix I want? I know I'll need 2 separate amps, will I need a New alternator for 3.5k watts? I'm open to ideas. I'm not budget building, I'm putting 400$ away every two weeks for upgrading. This way I can still afford to live comfortably instead of dropping 1-2k on equipment at once.
afrakes Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Don't do it. Horrible idea. Never mix and match subs, usually causes cancellation and won't sound good. Kind of attatched even though I prefer the lows over what my jvc produces. THanks for your opinion. I'll end up just commiting to the x series

Since posting this question last night I've been vigorously hunting down x12 series box designs. I literally can't find anything. I mean I'll find some random pictures if the insides but they won't have measurements or anything useful. Or I find blue prints for subs that require less space. I'm only on mobile, my computer is fried so I can't download any sub box calculators (good ones) If you switch subs please build a box specific to the new subs. AlwaysUpgradingBASS Posted January 10, 2015 Author Report Posted January 10, 2015 I'm more interested in building a box rather than buying. I'm a contractor so tools are not an issue and my work is pretty well rounded. Been measuring and cutting for years.
soundstream15 Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Don't mix match subs, horrible idea. Don't sundown x subs then. I don't like how they sound above 38hz. They lack a lot to me. You can still buy subs that smash lows and do well like what you want.
