Leepersc Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 Ah, so he's thinking the issue is something with the install? If so, that makes more sense than build quality of the amps being the issue.
KTMrida4life Posted March 7, 2015 Author Report Posted March 7, 2015 How are you wiring them? Strapping or using passthroughs for Rcas? Or y splitters to each amp Interesting if you figure out why these problems are occurring. In the old build yes they were strapped..... Amp 1 and 3 were strapped, and Amp 2 and 4 were strapped. When they started having the on/off thing, it was a master in one pair of amps, and a slave in the other pair of amps which makes no sense. I've been told by db-r that the parts in the amp going bad causing the on/off thing are the same parts that go bad when people were incorrectly use a v1 DD-1. To my understanding, either +12v shorts to speaker - , or speaker + to GND. Either way I have no idea how it happened.. but I do know I had a bad roof leak (more like 5) and didn't realize how much water had leaked in the day this happened. Head unit is the same.. 80 prs. All RCA's are brand new, bass knob is new, all speaker wire runs to doors replaced, made sure all of my power/ground runs were good and replaced one and ran another for +12v (for 125.4's) and obviously new wire inside the box. The issue seems to be able to "jump" to another amp, because those brand new amps were just that, brand new. Now one has the issue, and they were never in the old setup. Not to mention I didn't use the 2 amps for a few months, and they worked fine after they had sat (would NOT protect even after warm) then one later blew up instead of protecting and the other went back to the on/off mess along with the new one. Damn bro! You've put in work! Not only on the install, but the work fixing sheet metal etc. Gotta say, I probably would have moved on from those 3800's after about amp 3 or 4! Tons of other brands that are too appealing without the issues you have been through IMO. Good luck bro! Keep up the hard work. Definately following this build. Thanks man, I debating on selling them and doing 3 big amps but didn't think it would be easy to sell all 4, and I can't afford 3 big amps. For the price, these are the best deal I can think of for the power you get. Ah, so he's thinking the issue is something with the install? If so, that makes more sense than build quality of the amps being the issue. Its not the build quality of the amps, they are great. They honestly really always have been VERY solid, especially considering for almost 2 months I was running 2 at 1/2 ohms strapped. Db-r said he should be able to get to the amps last week, then he disappeared for a few days, then he said he would get to them this week... Didn't hear from him today which means they still aren't fixed and its going to take even longer. =\
