sinister-kustoms Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Here's a little build I've got going on down here in New Zealand. The truck is a crew cab Mitsubishi L200 (same as Mighty Max). It's been my daily driver/on-going project for the last 10 years, so it's seen it's fair share of system changes over the years. After tossing around all sorts of ideas, I've decided it's time to bite the bullet and wall it. It was always heading that way, so may as well get it over and done with. Go big or go home right? The system is fairly tame compared to some of the builds on here. Gear down this way is crazy expensive due to shipping and I've got a family and mortgage to think of as well! Pioneer 80PRS Highs: Image Dynamics Ultra HLCD's on mini bodies on an Audiomedia ADP1000.2 Mids: Crossfire XS-M8's on an Audiomedia ADP2000.4 (bridged) Lows: 4) Crossfire C5 12 D2's on a Sundown SAZ-3000d Sub enclosure is a 4th order bandpass - rougly 2.5:1 ratio, I want to measure the sealed side's peak before finalising the vented side, but I guessing it'll somewhere in the high 40's. On to the build: I'd previously build custom door panels for dual 6.5" mids, but obviously they wouldn't work for the 8" mids, so they got sold and I've started new ones. First of all though, the doors got the heavy sound deadening treatment. I stripped the Peel'n'Seal off...don't believe everything you read on the net! I started with a set of Massive Audio CK6 components, so started the door panels to suit those, and changed to the XS-M8's later Baffles for the XS-M8's are made from 25mm HDPE - solid as F'k and will never swell from moisture! sinister-kustoms Posted March 19, 2015 Author Report Posted March 19, 2015 I'd never tried a 4th order before, so I did a bunch of research and had a go with just one of the C5 12's before going all out. Ended up with 1.2 c/ft sealed and 2.5 c/ft ported, tuned to 50Hz. Running on the Sundown at 4ohm, this thing got down! https://www.facebook.com/SinisterKustoms
sinister-kustoms Posted March 19, 2015 Author Report Posted March 19, 2015 Another reason NOT to use Peel'n'Seal - this shit is a pain in the ass to clean once it starts falling off Mitsubishi kind of dropped the ball with factory deadening, but at least gave me a nice blank slate to work with! With deadening out of the way, it was time to start the fun stuff. I started off with the base, which is 1-1/4" of layered MDF, then 1-1/8" ply on top of the rear seat riser and bolted in place using the seat mounting holes. The shell is all 1-1/8" ply. Sealed section will just be single layer with 1" bracing, 1" x 1/8" right angle perimeter and sealed with resin. Ported side will get an additional layer of 3/4" ply for a total of 1-7/8". Should be sweet yeah? I can always add steel bracing if need be. Baffle is also 1-7/8" thick, and sits on top of all the bracing. Added a window on the rear wall to try a keep a degree of practicality while walling a daily driver I'm using 20mm acrylic to fill the hole. ^^Which is about as far as I am right now. I want a crew cab mini !!!!!!! Lol, I get that a lot on the American sites! They're common as hell down here - Toyota, Nissan and Mazda all do crew cabs. You still pay good money for the 'yotas, but everything else is reasonably cheap. Glad to see someone else using horns, nice build so far. I've had them sitting on the shelf for ages but kept putting off installing them 'coz they're such a mission to install. Drivers side isn't going to be too hard, but I need to take about 1.5" out of the heater bower unit to make the passenger side to fit. I've always been more of an SQ guy, but the SQ scene here is pretty much dead, so figured I'd build something that will impress the bassheads, but still stage and image nicely. I'm a little worried the XS-M8's won't have the midbass I'm looking for, but I'm thinking of trying ported door enclosures if they don't perform free-air in the doors like they are now. https://www.facebook.com/SinisterKustoms
