I built a ported enclosure per Joe x, and it sounds great.I've never had a ported enclosure and I'm hearing a noise when the bass çhanges.its almost like the pop when u check phase with a 9 volt batt.what Im wondering is it over excursion I'm hearing or clipping?I hooked up the sub's at 1ohm with a autotek mm4000.1d on stock electric in a Buick park ave,the voltage per meter on car stays above 12, but drops from 13.1-.3 to 12 with the volume half way on the deck and I can't hear it unless the trunks open.amplifier gain is a little over half, same with bass boost, and bass boost controller that came with amp.sub sonic filter should be at 28 but probably to low

You can't hear clipping. Turn the bass boost off completely. Setting your gain to "a little over half" doesn't mean it's where it needs to be. The gain matches your input voltage from the RCA's. Turn it too high and you're clipping the signal. Ditch the bass boost controller too. Can't help you with the subsonic. Use the proper tools to set amplifier gain and filters. Oscope or DD-1 for gain. If you don't have either, you can ask your local shops if they have one they can tune your setup with for you. Or use the SMD tools map on this forum to find someone local to you. The popping noise is usually from a speaker trying to play frequencies it's not able to reproduce (typically your mids and highs speakers). But I will almost guarantee even if you leave gain where it is, but remove the bass boost controller and turn bass boost all the way off, you won't hear it pop anymore. Turn sub-level or bass boost on HU to zero as well.

The decks controls are close to max except vol. On a Walmart 70_80 $ pioneer and I'm using music on a USB drive. I never heard the pop in the sealed enclosure at 1ohm and controls were turned up more.just wondering if I would wire to 4ohm since enclosure is now ported, but since amplifier is way over rated, would that be enough.my buddy wired the2 4ohm dvc to 2ohm ,but I figured it wasn't good since I can't find anyone else online doing it so I changed it to 1ohm while still using the sealed enclosure.any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance,I'll check back after 4 when I get off work thanks

He couldn't have wired two 4ohm DVC to 2ohms. But as I said, lower all of your settings on the HU, stop using bass boost, make sure low pass filter for sub is set around 125hz to get you started, and the subsonic around 28 like you said it's supposed to be. Don't boost any frequencies with an EQ, make sure your gain is set properly, and the only things you need for good clean sounding bass is that. If it's not loud enough for you, buy different subs and amp that can give you the output you want. Boosting everything and having it incorrectly set up is just going to make you buy new gear anyways and keep destroying it

How loud is your "pop" and at what frequencies dose it tend to make this sound at. Could be the sub bottoming out.

You can't hear clipping.

Really?
He said it might be over exscursion or clipping. You can hear the difference between a square and a sine? I can't, and I've yet to meet anyone who can. I'd love to test your ears to see if you can if you believe so.

So you're going to tell me you don't think distortion is audible?

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

You can absolutely hear the difference between a square and a sine wave. While very mild clipping may not be audible, more moderate clipping certainly is.
