deetill22 Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 I have a stock 80amp alt running a 1500 quantum audio on 6 8s 6 Supertweeters and 2 10s (I know, need a bigger one) and a 2500 pioneer on 4 15s everything is good but my headlights dim along with my eq light, my question is should I add a 2nd battery or just get an cap? I'm running a yellow top under the hood I realize I should upgrade my alt but money's tight right now, any suggestions? Thank you for any help!
deetill22 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 And no I haven't done a big three yet, I'm slacking I know i have to take small steps
bcbrassard Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Second batt wont help much IMO since you dont have the big three done and you are running a 80 amp alt. I ran a 80 amp with 3 batterys, big 3, ect and it did ok but until i put a Singer 220 amp alt in did my system shine. Baby steps but you need to take a step forward. Caps are shit, never really had any use for them!
deetill22 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 Yea I feel you, now it's not like I'm running competition subs each is only 600 watts rms, still the same thing?
deetill22 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 And if anyone could help me pick of what order I should add alt, big 3 etc, I'll be doing it all within the next 2 months, my insurance is eating my bank account so it's a struggle to do everything at once
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Big 3 first as you'll need it done anyways to install an h.o. alt. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
bcbrassard Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Big three, better Battery (Biggest you can fit under the hood) and save up for a ALT. I know it costs a bit but thats what it takes to run multiply amps.
deetill22 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 I already have the yellow top optima winder the hood so the next will be the big three!
RooTxBeeR Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 It don't matter whether you're running competition grade or entry level. Power is power. Do the big 3 first, then I would get a battery after that followed by an alt upgrade. If you want to go the next step after that, put a quality cap before the amp to level off an sudden dips. That is with a quality alternator though.
