snafu Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 It's too small. I can't get them all through it. And that's why. All negative cables must pass through this in order for your charging system to function correctly. Lsufan51 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 It only happens when I crank the system up. It's really weird.
MrSkippyJ Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 that's not weird, it makes sense. if the charging system can't correctly measure the amount of current being used then it can't adjust the output. Lsufan51 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 Does anyone know if there is a bypass for this pcm controlled alternator bullshit?
jbeez Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I have a 2014 ford taurus and it has this battery management system with a clamp on the battery negative terminal. I'm not sure of the size of your factory clamp but I was able to squeeze an uncrimped KNU 1/0(about a 2/0 size wire) through there, but no way would I be able to if it were already crimped. You want to pass everything through there so the system will help you instead of work against you. If you need to reduce your wire size just to go there there I would. Maybe 2awg would fit, or 4? You could also do something like a coupler or distro right before the ring to reduce the wire size just going through the current ring for a very short distance(few inches) then use another coupler to bring it back to 0awg or w/e you're using for the longer run. It's a little hacky but if you want to maximize that it should help. Do you have a pic of the battery area and the current clamp? This is mine with a 4awg through it. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/sRlWiaXM-pZOzWEOyVJW9oEKQ3a0ninq_yI0bhQLtak=w1210-h908-no I'm sure its good enough for that run, but I can't leave good enough alone, im waiting for some 2/0 ring crimp lugs to show up so I can slip that knu 0 through there and finish it right
Lsufan51 Posted August 26, 2015 Author Report Posted August 26, 2015 I bought another battery current sensor and put it on the new power wire. It hasn't popped up in about 4 days so I assume it's fixed.

I was able to squeeze a KNU 1/0 tinned ofc cable through, but I had to crimp it AFTER i fished it through
Loops12 Posted August 26, 2015 Report Posted August 26, 2015 I have an 09 impala and have the same problem, did you add a second one?
