My Amp Is Getting Hot

ok my trunk is pretty sealed and my amp is under the back deck there is some air getting to is but i noticed that now that the weather is getting warm my amp is also. i went and bought a pretty big 12v fan from radio shack to wire with my amp will that help keep it cool? the reason i ask is when i play songs that hit real hard it will get warm and shut off.

yeah in the summer months i see my amp gets up to 114 degrees easily ... that fan should help but its still going to get hot just because a car is a moving heat magnet.... your car can get up to sometihng like 160 degrees.... which is crazy.

its weird all winter it never got hot, now when it gets 85 it got hella hot. i couldnt even touch it.

I don't think you have enough room for your setup but I mounted my friends amp right in front of the port so when the subs hit it pushed air from the port over the amplifier.

that was another thing i was thinking. the box was going in a 2000 explorer but the seller decided to keep it after i started the box. :mad: it barley fits in my trunk

A couple of things.

1 it's a Abahn amp, depending on how you have it wired, you could fry an egg on them.

2 your amp is in the trunk with no air movement. thats going to raise the temps.

3 Electrical, if it's not strong enough the amp will starve for power and run hotter then it would if everything is ok.

the subs are dual 4 ohm bridged - to - + to + and then bridged at the amp. so thats what 1 ohm or 2 ohm ? i have 1/0 wire ran to the back then at a splitter 4g to both amps.i did the big 3. could it be possable my amp is going out?

my amp will shut off then i turn off the hu for 10 seconds and turn it back on and it will play again.

i think i fixed the problem i was looking and found that the plastic on my remote wire was tore and touching the metal in my trunk. i fixed and put a 12volt fan blowing on my amp and it hasn't cut out at all.

i need to put more dynamat for some reason with the subs and port firing back it rattles more than when the subs were firing up and port back. i guess the tuning is a big factor to the old box was 34 hertz the new one is somewhere around 22 to 25 hertz
