Video Card Question (sli 6800 Or Single 8600)

ok I am updating my PC(pc not my mac). I am adding another 19" monitor an extra 2gb of ram. now i want to do something about the video card.

I currently have an XFX geforce 6800 XT. it has dual dvi out, but I dont feel its powerful on its own to what I want it to do. So I was going to either add another XT 6800 and strap them together or buy a single 8600GT

My question is would the SLI'd 6800s be a better performer than the single 8600GT(buying 2 8600GT is out of the question)

Also I am not worried about power consumption or noise(to an extent)

single 8600gt, sli is the biggest joke I have honestly ever seen. It does pretty much nothing until you get in resolutions of 1920 x 1200 (24" lcd). My dad has dual 7950gt 512mb models and a e6600, made no difference in performance whatsoever, I might be selling my 7 month old evga 8800gts 640mb it absolute perfect condition if your interested.

pm me a price( i bet i wont buy it since you are talking about a 640mb one :( cant be cheap at all).

my current resolution is 1440 x 900. but with the added monitor i have to count for that twice. shit if i could make the res higher i would.

Also I do render quite a bit of stuff, such as HD videos and whatnot. so the power will be used when needed. so what do you think, just use a single card for simplicity sake?

Nah single card b/c a single 8600gt will out perform dual 6800s by a long shot.

btw: the new card is a 9800gx2 not a 8900.
