tenrep Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 im a newbie of some sort and wanna learn a bit so I just thought maybe I should just go to the pawn shop and buy some shitty sub and trash it so I have project something to work on do a recone something for hands on ya dig!! what yall think ive watched videos i can do this give me some feed back even yall smart asses i know yall are coming no doubt i just interested in the whole situation
3vil Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 I do think you'd learn something about the reconing process, and about the overall components/design of subwoofers. However, if your pawn shops are anything like mine, you'll be starting of with a garbage motor and basket. Might be more rewarding to check the classifieds here and find someone selling a blown sub that would be a better platform to build from, resulting in a more "useable" sub once you're finished.

audiofanaticz Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 To buy halfway decent parts to rebuild one woofer your lookig at $100+. A cheap generic woofer from a pawn shop is not worth its usually inflated price, let alone the additional costs of the parts.It takes more than just slapping a bunch of parts together that fit but have incorrect tolerances. Tried telling the one kid this that built his own up and didnt want to listen and bought several parts over and over and over. For the price he paid he could of bought one bad ass expensive woofer, the one he built cant handle power will not utilize the parts he bought to their max performance, and has huge rubbing issues. Hey at least he can say he built a woofer..
