BigManAC
I am trying to learn a bit more about the differences between conventional and hairpin alts both mechanically and performance wise. I tried google and looking here on the forum. Can anybody fill me in or have a link that explains it all? Massivespl
Hair pin alts. Make higher amp power at idle. Not full power. 2000 rpm makes full power just like a conventional alt. you can run the hp alts daily. They are actually more dependable than an conventional alt that's over 200 amps for a daily application.... I run hairpins and wouldn't have it any other way. Tops choices for alts are Excessive amperage Ohio gen Dc power Singer Mech man In that order lol c-pillar flat wall 157.11db on music 2 crossfire 8k 4 NSV3 18s 4 crescendo 10s 4 Rockford pro 6.5s Quad excessive amperage 350alts 4 juicebox 3100s
SkarredSierra
I dont know alot but from reading on the forum and seeing peoples opinions i believe a hairpin alt is the way to go. From what people say they produce more amperage than a conventional alt at idle.
mcfalcon
I do not have a link. But to the best of my knowledge the hairpin puts out more amps at idle (or low rpms) than the conventional. Which people ,including myself, didn't think they would need that just driving back and forth to work or whatever and it was brought to my attention that stop lights and traffic jams ,things of that nature, that you would be idling and still need the amperage. Still learning but have started gathering.
Rich Schenk
I've had 3 ho different alts 2 regular and 1 sixphase hairpin. Regular ones needed to have higher rpms to put out good amperage. Singer 6phase hairpin idle puts out higher amperage. So less voltage drop vs regular ho alts. I will only by 6phase hairpins for that reason now you don't have to rev your engine. On 3/28/2014 at 4:22 PM, KyLar96 said: Its all about the music anyway..... BigManAC
I guess I should have read up on all of this before I got my alt haha. Oh well, I will know for the next car/build. Still love my Singer 240a though. Any literature on the exact mechanics on how it works? 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw
Massivespl
6 phase do not exist.. All it is,is two 3phase in one case that alternate back in forth... But the car audio world knows them as 6phase. Had a good talk with Tom for Ohio gen about this at world finals last weekend... Also powder coating alts holds heat in more which is a no no. So either leave your alts plain or paint them in thermal high temp engine paint c-pillar flat wall 157.11db on music 2 crossfire 8k 4 NSV3 18s 4 crescendo 10s 4 Rockford pro 6.5s Quad excessive amperage 350alts 4 juicebox 3100s
