Dual 12 in DC Audio XL set up enclosure

Hey guys, I was wanting to upgrade my system from a single DC XL 12 to a dual 12 in XL set up. I was wondering what the best enclosure would be to move the most air. I am going to have it in a 4 door mazda 3 with dimensions of roughly 37*15*18.

I am going to have a skar 4500 push both of them at one-ohm.

Currently I have one XL in a ported enclosure tuned at 29 HZ roughly 2.5 cubes before displacement and the lows are phenomenal I just want some more power. I heard 4th orders are the best way to go as far as moving air but I think space may be an issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From what i understand 4th orders play a wider range of frequencies, while ported boost the output of at and around the tuned frequency. Down side is from the measurements you posted you wouldn't have anywhere near the amount of space to build one properly.

4th order band pass boxes (ported boxes are 4th order designs as well, BTW) allow you to trade efficiency for bandwidth and vice-versa. So you can have a box that has a wide bandwidth, but you have to give up a lot of output to get it, or you can have a box that's really efficient and thus gets really loud, but it's a one-note-wonder. Everything is a trade off, there are no free lunches in car audio.

A fourth order band pass box's most useful attribute is it lets you pump all the sound through a port. Situations that don't require that you are almost always going to be better off with a ported box.

Yeah that's what I kinda figured seeing as I am going to be putting it in my trunk. Thanks for the input, I guess I'll stick to a ported box. Any ideas on frequency? I was thinking about sticking with 29 Hz.

Tune it to the music you listen to, if you listen to nothing but rap then 29hz is fine, but if you like a wider range of music i would recommend around 32-34hz. I'm running 2 DC Lv6 18's and have the box tuned to 30 and it sounds great, 90% of what i listen to is rap tho.

Yeah just about everything I listen to is rap so 29 hz should continue to work well for me. By the way, are your level 6s in a slot port enclosure?

Yea my port is 46" x 4" and about 34" long (i think, can't remember exactly) and right near 11.5cu.ft. net volume. Those XL's of your's should sound bad ass tho, they aren't anything to sneeze at by any means. Talk to Triticum for recommendations on volume and port size tho, he knows his stuff.
