rmalek13421 Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 I just bought a JL w3v3-4 off of CL. The subwoofer looks pretty much perfect and the voice coils test fine. But for some reason it just doesnt work. I hooked the sub up to my friends system which has a rockford 450.2 and i was getting no movement from the sub. I had my friends subwoofer right next to mine and when i would move the speaker wires coming from the amp to my friends sub i would get bass so i know the wiring and everything is correct. Any help would be really helpful im pretty stumped. On a side note i contacted the seller and he said its a pro series sub which takes 1500 rms to power and 500 rms min to run. I have never heard of a jl w3v3-4 pro and i have serached all of the internet i dont think it exists but if someone has heard of this sub that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

jk13 Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 How does the voice coil "test fine"? What test did you do? There is no such thing as a JL pro series in any line they have. Besides, even a 5k watt sub will make some sound on low power. Static drops are my bag.
rmalek13421 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Report Posted November 13, 2015 I tested the sub with a DMM and the voice coil is fine and the sub looks perfect and when you push down on the cone it feels fine no grinding and it doesnt feel frozen.
jk13 Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 Stationary voice coil can test fine (what was the DMM reading, BTW?) and lose connection the moment it moves. Have seen a few times in customer cars. VC wires break at flex point. Leave DMM hooked up and gently move the cone straight down by hand and hold steady, or put a small amount of weight on it. Does DMM stay consistent? Static drops are my bag.

Does DMM stay consistent? Will check when i get home. It was testing at 3.8 it is a 4ohm coil but wouldnt it still atleast be getting some sort of movement if the coil is going bad. The sub had no movement at all.
