s5300 Posted January 24, 2016 Author Report Posted January 24, 2016 for the record, my worst sounding subs I owned were some DD 9900's the yellow cone 18" subs. Multiple stiff spiders glued on top of one another doesnt equal good sound q Hey man - I do appreciate what you have to say - I just don't exactly know too much about it, so I can't take a real stance or have an actual conversation/intelligent argument about it with you. Though what I can assume from what you're saying - if I'm ever looking for a SQ setup - make sure it has copper coils? I do want my system really loud and body shaking - but I don't want it to sound like a fatass farting. Would you mind recommending a few 12's in a decent price range? (Those that fall in your category) Thanks!
MADVIBES Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 Look, in my experience which is a bit salty, I just prefer the sound of copper, not saying aluminum cant sound good it just usually takes 8 layers of it to really give them that smooth sound I like. My favorite system was my 2 18" subs with 3" copper coils, so warm and so deep and they were pretty loud 150.6 @30hz the second pair I built had 4" coils and its hard to find a long winding width voicecoil that is all copper, so I went copper clad, a little bit of good from both worlds, then the next pair of subs were 4" high winding witdth aluminum the loudest by far but didnt have the sound I crave. look I am very anal about my sub bass sounding a certain way, you may not be picky like me or may not even hear a difference, I do like the audioqubed subs with the copper coils sound q better, DB DRAG PSYCHLONE PRO 156.3 30 SECOND AVERAGE FO MAX AT 26HZ LEGAL DASH DRIVER DOOR OPEN 158.0@30 HZ MY BEST SO FAR, HOPEFULLY A 160 COME FEBUARY. 156.9@26hz 158.0@30hz
s5300 Posted January 24, 2016 Author Report Posted January 24, 2016 Ahh - So, I have another question. At what size trunk would I want to put 15's in instead of 12's? Or is that pretty much non a thing for smaller cars.
Joe X Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 You need your trunk to have 16 1/2" height at least and you need between 3-4 net per driver depending on their specs, pretty big trunk but if feasible 2 15s in a trunk car is a great setup.

Trunk has a total volume of 15.8 cubic feet Think the height was like 21' from the middle of the inside to the top, but you can only fit something 18' unless you were to take off the top for installing. Width excluding the very far back where the wheel wells were was about 44', then Length is well, pretty long. I can get some more exact measurements tomorrow - but would it be at all feasible for me to run dual 15's?
MADVIBES Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 very feasible, check my build log, I ran 18" subs in my trunk and got my box to be 12 cubes. I started with 2 12", then 2 15" then finally 18",,, I have 21" subs now but they are no longer in the trunk, too much logistics for that. It's more about the usable space and the drivers needs so some dimensions would be best, also what vehicle is it but it seems you may be able,
s5300 Posted January 26, 2016 Author Report Posted January 26, 2016 Hey guys. I come with dimensions of my trunk, my stock alt and the current hood batt. Stock Alt : 6e5t-10300-BD / 150A @ 12v Stock Battery: Autocraft Gold, Group Size 96R, 590CCA @ 12v Because this forum seriously doesn't want me posting pictures - please check out this album real quick, has trunk dimensions. http://imgur.com/a/ZXN6h 37' and 19' are trunk opening width and trunk opening max height insert. Mike singer quoted me $475 on a 240A alt. Considering my stock alt is 150A @ $150ish... that seems a little high just for another 1000watts handling power. JS Ultimate Alts quoted me $475 for a 300A alt.. but those guys are a little bitch sketchy... what's the max wattage I could probably run in my system while still giving the car all it needs? We have 1800-600 (stock system) leaving us with 1200w for car and anything else.
MADVIBES Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 buy a matching battery for the trunk and call it a day. DB DRAG PSYCHLONE PRO 156.3 30 SECOND AVERAGE FO MAX AT 26HZ LEGAL DASH DRIVER DOOR OPEN 158.0@30 HZ MY BEST SO FAR, HOPEFULLY A 160 COME FEBUARY. 156.9@26hz 158.0@30hz
