Mid tier SPL 12's in the $200-$350 range recommendations

Hello all.

I've had my eyes set on some DD Redline 712's and Massive Audio Hippo 122's for some time now. (Would be running a dual sub setup)

Unfortunately, the electrical for maxing out the Hippos right now is a bit expensive (4k RMS @ 2 ohms)

and I have been reading more and more about the DD's being overpriced in a sense of paying for the name and IMMENSE quality to the point of being able to totally overpower them without blowing and going incredibly hard in competition - neither of which I'll be doing, so maybe I should be looking elsewhere?

So - as it stands, these will be going in a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr.

Needing two subs, each $200-$350 each.

I'd like them to be in the 1000-1500 RMS range - but hell, if there's something pretty good for what I'm wanting lower than that it's only cheaper for me I guess.

I've been pointed towards soundcubed quite a bit - mainly the HDC3 12's

But in the end - I don't really know exactly what I'm wanting, haha. I mean, I was impressed by a buddys pretty shit system he paid an outrageous amount to install at some pleb-tier shop.

It was my assumption - paying quite a bit more equipment wise, doing the install, fabbing my own box and all, that I could make pretty great things happen. Maybe I just want to be an obnoxious dick - who knows.

(oh yeah, I probably should've mentioned - I know the extent of all the electrical upgrades that will be needed)

I guess the questions you really need to ask yourself now are "What do I want out of this stereo?" and "how much money do I want to spend total?"

I don't know what you have now but 2000W of subwoofers might not sound the best with stock speakers playing the rest of the music. On another note - if you are on a budget why not go for one subwoofer instead of 2? You could even get a Hippo if that's what you want and run it at 1 ohm. Not sure why they only have a dual 2 option.

Yes, was that company... How I am understanding it, is that it was tfade that didn't follow up on getting a replacement sub.

I mean, fuck, I can shoot his wife(which is basically like the head of marketing) a message on facebook and she'll be back with me in like 10 minutes.

And they make realllly nice products from what I've been seeing. Hoping to give them a shot here later in the year. Them, and Sims Audio Solutions. Whoever gets to making a nice 8 for me that's colored the way I want it.

See - I guess I don't know what I truly want - mainly because there's pretty much nowhere around me I can go to listen to a ton of setups. I have a good idea - low, pounding bass that you can definitely feel with everything shaking - but keeping a hint of SQ at the same time. Maybe like, 70% SPL 30% SQ - if you can even understand that as being a 'thing' haha. The Zephyr has the THX II sound system - it's nothing amazing, but it's actually pretty decent. Way better than any other car I've been in's stocks. I do have plans for putting aftermarkets in eventually, but by then I might actually have a new car.

Now - I could get a hippo and run it 2000 W RMS @ 2 ohms - but... with the electrical added in, it would be near the same price of a DD running at 1200RMS @ 1 ohm.. it really sucks I don't know which one would be better for my liking. Some said the Hippo because it's taking in more power. But.. if I can overpower the DD's.. whose to say they wouldn't be the winner?

Unfortunately, I'm 17 and will be going in to college pretty soon. I'm relatively poor as it is family wise, but I go about making my own decent money. I'd like to have this setup before I'm out of highschool - mainly because I motherfucking hate the people in my school paying like $600 to have a 300W system installed thinking it's good.
