MyNameIsNoob Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Ok so i figured i will post up some pics of my ride n log the project as i go... My requirements/ goals are a bit unique compared to most builds, bc atm it is primarily a work car first and foremost. I deliver new motorhomes, various box trucks, Bobtail tractors and Crane trucks all across the country and my car gets towed behind whatever im driving to get me to the next pick up... So in this small of a car, space is a premium, and so is protecting the audio equipment since my car stays loaded w tools and luggage as it bouces around behind whatever im pulling it w... Therefore, this isnt some crazy extreme build in the typical sense... but its still kinda crazy lol So my ph broke a cpl weeks ago n i lost all the pics leading up to this point, but theres still plenty of work left to do, so i will be updating as i go... Stay tuned... (Pit stop in Nederland, Colorado headed to pick up a motorhome goin to Cali) (Heres a close up of what i use to pull the car with, in case youre wondering)
jk13 Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Interesting job and a great car to do it with. Static drops are my bag.

MyNameIsNoob Posted January 27, 2016 Author Report Posted January 27, 2016 Almost everything will be getn replaced except for the Polks, but I will also be keeping the factory HU to keep the stock look and all the useful features w it... plus it has a real clean signal, so it works for me Hifonics MX-1 Line level converter... This will be my first upgrade. Leaning towards a Soundstream Harmony, bc of the 31 band EQ and the summing feature to fix my factory crossover limitations... Right now im forced to run the factory tweeters bc its either mids or highs to run the components. Hifonics BRX616 4 ch and Hifonics BRZ1700.1... Believe it or not, they sound pretty good n i got plenty of power (for now), but want better (Cant tell in the pic, but the wiring isnt all tidied up yet... the blue lights help lol)
MyNameIsNoob Posted January 27, 2016 Author Report Posted January 27, 2016 Polk DB401 Center channel. Had to do a few mods to make it fit, but its in there... Not ideal, but ya barely notice the allen heads... its a temporary fix till i get time to make a pod anyways Polk MM6501 components hiding behind the fancy dimension logo hahaa Tweeters dont fit in the factory location, but i rather have em here anyways. Plus its still kinda hidden tucked away behind the pillar Polk MM691... I decided to cut a hole to fit a 6x9 bc im not afraid of a lil fiberglass work... I got these to get a lil more midbass and keep some rear ambience, but wish i made a better decision for that. "Newbie moment lol"

MyNameIsNoob Posted January 27, 2016 Author Report Posted January 27, 2016 This is where the compromise/ oddity really happens lol... I only had a small area to work with, so i had to do a lil planning to keep my airspace correct n still have room to fit all my attachments in the back... I had to lay out all the pieces on the ground n measure the minimum size my top board needs to be before i could make any other decisions... To my reluctance i decided on a downfire box, but I had never heard one that impressed me, so i set out to do a lil research on how to get all i can from it. From what i learned the 2 most important factors was to keep the box 1/4 - 1/3 of the speaker size off the ground and to allow at least 1.5 times the surface area of cone for the air to escape from under it... So to keep it from being too restricted and the box as short as possible i had to use the spare tire well to fire it into... I have the box 1.5" off the floor of trunk and the spare tire well 3.5" deeper than that for a total of 5" clearance and 1.75x the air space... and to be perfectly honest, I do not regret it 1 bit... I still get the loading effect i had before w the subs, port pointed back, but the bass is so tight now,. It hits like a sealed box n sounds real good. Youd never know theres a 150$ sub hiding underneath it hahaa XS D925... Please excuse the teeny ground wire. Its all i had at that point, but i have 0g for it now... and the 2 3" ports were my first ever attempt at a homemade flare. it turned out pretty decent i think, but the next ones i do should go much more smoothly now that ive done one n learned a few tricks... And nevermind the 2 lb box of screws holding it together, it was clamped n glued together w titebond, but my buddy decided to "help" by finishing the rest of the screws for me smh its all good tho bc i can use the excuse that its only a work car lol Looking down between the box and hatch from top. The board is jus sittin there, so i need to snug that up (and maybe a 45 degree bevel?) before i can smooth it all out. Here is ground level... Hard to get a good idea of what it all looks like bc i couldnt see the screen of my ph to get a good pic, but this is the best one i could get from under the box... The woodwork isnt the prettiest, but my cuts are square and i didnt hafta redo anything, so im happy lol Ok so this was a new experience for me and the ugliest part of the build (luckily, you cant see it tho hahaa)... I had to make a curve to encase the rounded portion of the spare tire well, so after watching the CarAudioFabrication video on this, i decided to go for it... Originally, i had it lookin real good w near perfect cuts, n a nice bend to it... So after i finished cutn the grooves i called it a night n put all the pieces up for the trunk floor... Well i wake up to the rounded section on the ground n broke into several pieces (Good way to start the day huh?), but im down to only small scraps, not enough to do the entire section over with out buyin another sheet of MDF, so i had no choice but to go ahead n try to get it up as square as i can. Its solid, so thats the most important thing to me!
