I only cut frequencies on my EQ anyways whenever I try to tinker with it, but most times I leave set at flat since I don't seem to be able to find a good medium for all genres of music I listen to. Now i know if i raise above flat on my HU i may introduce distortion, so i should only go negative to balance response. Unless i wanna go full retard and possibly break shit.
