Tarball
Can someone confirm from 1st hand experience if the Free Windows 10 Upgrade USB key will install and function completely free on a fresh build and not an upgrade (like from within WIn7 or WIn8.x)? Tarball
Seems its intended to be an upgrade not a standalone https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 CURRENT SYSTEM: Alternator: Stock alt on mids/highs Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v Batteries: (2) XS D1400s Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks Headunit: 80-PRS Sub Amp: DC 5.0k Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal. Lbox88
Worked fine for me Started the installer, did a clean install and kept nothing, didn't fuck anything up that I know of. UBL | Build Log
Tarball
Worked fine for me Started the installer, did a clean install and kept nothing, didn't fuck anything up that I know of. Interesting. Did you build the USB key on the same hardware that you then installed clean from ? Lbox88
Yep, was just a download from Microsoft, pick the USB you want it on and what versions you want on it. After that was done, run startup.exe on the USB, and it opened a new window like any normal installer, asks if you want to upgrade, install but keep old files, or keep nothing new installation. Tarball
hmm, thats different that what I'm asking here. If you built the key within your OS that you intended to upgrade then it can check for existing license and hardware. I am asking if anyone has taken a USB built in one machine and done a complete install on new hardware that has never had an operating system. Thanks for the input and details. Whether a hard drive has a operating system installed or not. You can install off a cd, or usb. Created a Windows 10 "upgrade" USB and installed it on another device besides the one you created the USB on? I only have one aged computer at home and nothing to test on. I don't know what you mean by create a win10 upgrade usb. If you are refeering to the upgrade available to someone with a genuine copy of windows 7 installed. As someone already stated, you take the downloaded installer and install that on a usb and use it as it's meant to be. If you want to "upgrade", you select to transfer over old files when you install. If not and you want to just do a fresh clean install. Don't transfer anything. Lbox88
I get what you're saying now Tarball, and IIRC, you should still be able to use the USB version you can download from Microsoft, but then you would be asked to provide a license key at some point during installation. I can't find the article I was reading on it before I updated. UBL | Build Log
