ROLEXrifleman
Been real bust as of late. Want to keep you guys in the loop. what we started with, a vltor vis-1 Standard 5.56 opening. notice the "lip" on the bottom. Just for reference, this is how a standard ejection port would handle a .50 Measure 5, 6, .... cut once Clean up time. the shell deflector ended up coming off later for a deep clean success (video) http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v207/benelliman2/bw/6_zpshztsrnnj.mp4 Rolex you sicken me. ROLEXrifleman
A "Beowulf" upper is nothing more than a standard upper with a wider ejection port milled into it. The 1st reason I didn't want to do that was originality. Every .50 build revolves around a standard upper and the rail of your choice. Not only is this boring and un original but I've seen rails come loose due to the recoil of the round. 2. I wanted an ejection port cover. "Beowulf uppers are milled higher and lower that standard. when you mill higher you cut off the detents for the ejection port cover. Again, from an originality standpoint 98% of Beowulfs have no cover. The cover that I have going in is vital to the originality of the project. 3. Vltor and the monoblocks. I love the look of the mono uppers. The Vltor has always done it for me. When I found the VIS in 7" and was doing a 7.5" barrel I couldnt see myself using anything else. This upper/rail combo will never shift and if it does that means it broke, and if it breaks I'll know right away! 4. Pride in work. I didnt just want to assemble another AR. I wanted to do something the average guy a. wouldnt go to the extra effort of doing b. wouldnt know how to do it himself if he tried, at least not the right way. I wanted this to be one of those projects that you just don't see. There are a few other guys who have done the short .50 but have either bought an Alexander Arms 12" upper and slapped it on a pistol lower or went with a Satern Machine upper and barrel and just assembled it. There havent been too many guys that went SBR .50 let alone in 7.5". I know for a fact that my SBR isnt a one off, but I also know you arent going to go to the range every weekend and see one either.
