2 piece box

Ok.. so I'll keep this updated as build goes on.. so here is first port piece cut.. the notch is where the flange will go. I normally don't have edges on bottom of the box, but in this case, I wanted the flange to be as strong as possible so it's edge will have to be on the bottom.. if you don't understand, I'll explain with pictures later on in build..

What materiel will you be using to seal the two halves together? I assume you'd want something like butyl rope, so that it doesn't literally glue the two sides together if you ever need to break it down for removal?

I'll be using silicone.. it doesnt necessarily "glue" itself to the mdf.. it just seals the space.. it actually separates very easily.

Though i did think of using foam tape of prolly 1/4" thickness, but silicone will work best to seal in my opinion..

weather strip would be best probably, fairly easy to split apart vs silicone which will become glue when its compressed together like that.

anyways, first idea is the best one and if you wanted flooring screws would be fine to hold the halves together, just pre-drill holes in "top" part and use plenty of screws..

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

I might try using the weatherstripping foam tape first.. if it don't work like I would like, I'll use silicone

OP you should try to fit the port section with the sub section already in, hopefully it will work out but then who knows, I would have probably done cardboard tests of both parts.

I have already made and test fit cardboard mock ups.. I actually just test fit the tacked together port section in the trunk.. so now all I gotta do is pull it back apart and glue it up. Then build the box section..
